lexus V8 1uzfe?

Post by Corvid »

Heya All,

Does anyone know whether a 1uzfe would fit into a Rangie 2 Door?

Thanks,

I'm sure it will fit in the space under a rangie bonnet, but you would, I'm sure, have to get a custom made adaptor as I doubt anyone would have one off the shelf.

Well thats ok but depending on price and spec I think you will find it alot easier to fit a newer Rover V8 into your truck.

Anthony - a word of advice - don't comment unless you know what you are talking about. I'm sure you are a great bloke - not having a go.

If I am correct with the model designation - this is the same engine as Rob (BJ) is putting in his rock buggy - it is all alloy - thus the same weight/lighter than a rover v8 and probably trice the power and torque (albeit at higher revs???).

The original question was just if it would FIT or not. Since I have seen 6.2l GM V8 diesels in RR's then I'm sure you could MAKE it fit without too much problem. The only question would be how high the manifolds/injectors sit above the engine. It would be an interesting conversion. As I said before I think Rob (BJ) has one of these so maybe see if you can measure his.

Im not really sure that it would fit without some major cutting. If this is the same moter that BJ has in his new rig then it is a massive motor. The motor ts incredibly wide. Ill have a bit of a measure up comparing robs motor (which is in his rig in my shed) to a p76 motor I got sitting on a pallet.

Should post some measurements tomorrow.

I know a guy who put one of these motors into an early mustang back celica with twin turbos hanging off it. If it fits in that it should go in a rangie.

I've seen one of these put into a Shorty cruiser with the lexus auto. The owner was really happy with it. He had a lot of trouble using the factory computer. The gearbox sends a signal to the instrument cluster which converts it to/from analolgue and sends it to the computer from there. Without that sorted out it wouldn't go into lean cruise mode. I think there are some 'black boxes' around that will fix this.

I am told the engine will bolt straight up to a lot of the toyota hilux/surf gearboxes. Rather than using an adapter kit another option that was suggested to me was to use a hilux gearbox & transfer and ditch the RR geabox and transfer. Sounded like a good way to go to me.

Had a bit of a quick measure up today. Compared to a stock rangie 3.5l v8 the motor is about the same height and length but is about 160mm wider across the heads.

I am indeed putting a 1uzfe in my buggy. I would think you would have the room. It would be a heck of a job though.

The reason i am interested in the 1uzfe is i am a Toyota Man frankly.. But with my Budget for a 4by I dont like what is on offer from Toyo.
The 1uz is an awesome motor, which is very reliable and very strong.. and whoever said get a rangie 4.6? :D
there is no way!!! How much are they going for these days? I can pick a 1uzfe which for those who havnt worked it out yet are a Quad Cam 4L V8 all alloy (light) for $1200 from an importer.. Cheep Cheep..
And frankly ive never been a fan of the range rover motors.. They sound nice but reliability is my Number one Factor... and if im in the middle of No Where id feel more comfortable having a 1uzfe under my bonnet.

The quest Continues..

I have seen a 2 door with a 1uz mated to a zf, so yes it can be done

have also seen a 1hz and cruiser driveline in a 2 door rangie, radiator was directly behind the grille, about ~3" forward of normal pos.

I've come into this thread real late but should let you know I have a 1UZ in my Range Rover Dakar (English kit body).

I had to re-shape the firewall slightly and used a 12 mill adaptor between the engine and the Disco box my car runs.

Made new engine mounts at the front and the rear mounts are standard so drive shafts are unaltered.

Car should be running in a few weeks. It's a tight fit but goes in pretty easy.

We had to relocate the alternator to the passengers side in place of the airco compessor. I'm running headers, standard ECU, cold air intake and a big air intake and have removed the viscous fan and will run twin thermo fans. I expect 300 HP plus at the fly. Some cams and a supercharger would see a very lazy 400hp.

The car weights 1620kg so it is going to be pretty quick.

We replaced a highly modified John Davis Rover motor as it would not rev and drank fuel. Plus this looked like fun.

JD originally built the car for us in 1994 to use in the Australian Safari. Won the National Division in it so it was quick before the transplant.

Not having a dig at anyone, but why do we want to piss the Rover V8 off?

In the long run, it's much easier to fit a later Rover V8 and you will have less paperwork with engeneering certificates and the like.

I guess I'm a little conservative when it comes to engines in Rangies, but that just me. I've never had any real issues with the stock erngine apart from a bit sluggish, but I figuere I want something top go fast, I'll buy a performance car of some description.

But on the other hand, if you can get it to work and make it reliable, good luck and hope you will be happy with the end result. There's plenty of blokes here whoare more than helpful.

Aquaraangie,

I'm slow in responding but why would anyone want to keep the Rangie engine?

I had a mega dollar John Davis engine that gave nominal horsepower idled like a diesel produced power above 3000rpm and wouldn't rev past 4750.

Now I have 300hp and a motor that revs to 6500.

My car has been transformed.

I should mention the economy has almost doubled.

The Toyota design is 25 years younger than the Buick (they did design it) and shows it.

Hi LRHybrid100,

Yep thats my heap of crap.

Looks rough but a definite weapon.

It may not look like it but that car won the National Division of the Australian Safari in 1994. Age has not looked upon it well.

It will be repainted and looking pretty damn good by early July (rego is due then!) so I can plan on a bit of fun in spring/summer.

It won't get any serious FB work. It has become the family convertible. Pity cause it has some brilliant engineering under it.

I took the motor out on Sunday and will put it back this weekend and see how it goes. It had a clutch problem.

Obviously you are a local.

The rangie at JD's has been there for months.

The owner lives in Newcastle and has just about given up on it ever being finished.

The cute thing is John is building and has not quoted a finished price. He knows how to charge so I'm glad that isn't my car.

As they say he may be rough but at least he's expensive.

I didn't think John was doing any work there any more.Thought he split up with Bruce and was concentrating on his overseas interests?

John & Bruce have split.

John works from home. Apparently he had a big fire at home which destroyed cars and records.

He seems to spend a lot of time o/s.

I think this car is a left over from his days with Bruce.
