I have a friend who has a reco (2 years ago) Series 3 gearbox that jumps out of first and third gear. Does anyone know where we could get an ex army reco box or alternatively someone who could supply an exchange box that hasnt got all the gears half worn away??
This vehicle is used for exploration work (eg no roads) and the guy doesnt want to put a Series 2 non synchro box in because his employees drive it.
Thanks in advance

Series 3 Gearbox

The biggest problem is that it is no longer possible to buy genuine gears for series boxes, and aftermarket gears are highly variable in quality.
Most "reconditioned" series boxes are not really reconditioned.
AFAIK there are no ex-army reco units still around.
One idea would be to find a local LR mechanic whio you trust, and get him to build a box for you. Or a better idea would be to put an LT77/R380 in instead, but that involves a bit of engineering with the propshafts and gearbox crossmember.
