Lock nuts for wheels? Or other anti theft devices?

Post by up2nogood »

Just about to splurge on a new set of wheels and tyres and was wondering if anyone has a recommendation for anti theft devices for the wheels?

Lock nuts are OK, just make sure they aren't the kind you can get vice-grips on-to, or the kind with a 1-size fits-all key.

If the nuts aren't recessed in the rim you'll be able to get vice-grips on 'em, so unless your buying wheels with recessed nut holes, your screwed ;)

I am sure I have seen some that have cap-heads (domed heads) which you cannot get vice-grips onto. Other than that, you could weld a tube around one of the holes, and put the locknut on that one.

I just picked up my car from from Brisbane (Qld) and then drove it back to Sydney with a stop over at Coffs Harbour (about half way).

We stayed at a Novotel apartment and parked in an undercover car park. Some goat blowing arsehole stole the LightForce spotties off the bull bar. From inside the Novotel carpark!

Now I'm gonna spend over $2,000 on wheels and tyres and I don't want another piece of shit unbolting them and benefitting from my hard earned dollars.

I'm going to have enough trouble with doors that don't lock anyway!

Where do I get the tapered lock nuts from?

Quick update:

Neither Speedy Wheels nor Performance Wheels sell lock nuts for Rovers.

Anyone know where I can get 'em?

Tempe Tyres has no lead on them and now Mr Lug Nuts in Melbourne is a no go as well.

Does anyone make these for 16mm studs?
