hey guys
im looking at fitting a 2"lift on my 04 GU 3.oTD. was looking at the tough dog set up with their springs to suit.. has anyone using this setup? opinions? good or not? ill be mainly touring no big bog holes or anything.
i read on the general tech that some people were having troubles with the tough dog range!!
any help would be great.

Just fitted Konis to my GU with 3inch lift, its sweet, handles like a train on rails on the road.. well worth the coin.GU4me wrote:hey guys

A second vote for Koni ...
On another forum someone suggested that TD's come somewhere after solid steel rods ... with Koni's / Bilsteins being at the top of the list ...
They're actually not all that expensive ... when all is considered ... but yeah ... point of this post is that they are a great shock and highly recommended.

Another vote for the Monotubes (Koni/Bilsteins)
Twin tube shockers are cheaper to build, but do not dissapate heat anywhere near as well as monotubes, especially when fitting them on a tourer.
I have a rack of all my stuffed shocks in the shed off my GQ.
OME, Rancho 9000's, and procomp foam cell, all have a place there.
Wish I had spent the $$$ and bought a mono first up....just dont put them on a cruiser as the front wheels throw rocks at the back shocks, which will stuff a monotube.
On a patrol they are more protected

Koni's win hands down in my opinion . I've got them in my GU & I've done 40k's in 12 months which includes a lot of weekend trips out wheeling & haven't had a problem with them . A mate of mine had TD's & after only a couple of months, they started leaking . It's not the first time I've heard of this happening either........

Normal weekend type wheeling and occasional towing I reckon just about any shock would do.
I stuffed all of mine on the corrugations in central Australia.
Heat and aeration of the gas/oil makes to contents of a shock get very hot; they then fade and or their contents get past the seals and they leak.
Depends on your application as to what you need.

Koni - had mine for some time now and no problems. 2" lift with King Springs.
As you stated in your original post, you have heard of some people having failures. I too have read of people having multiple failures, and not just leaking but also breaking the eye welds, etc
Then again most things will have reported failures - just look at peoples stories on tyres! But, I haven't read too much about Koni failures - most people only report on the initial cost.

i run td coils and 45mm rear adjustable shocks , the shocks are great , i believe the problem with them having leakage problems were rectified some time ago , but just be aware being 45mm you need to trim abit of your bump stop plates on your axle housing to fit them properly , instructions come with the shocks .
coils seem fime but i opted for stiffer springs which i will go mediums next time
