xterrain v's radial claw etc

Post by derangedrover »

I may soon need to replace some 9.00r16 Michelin XZL's on an Oka and since they are hard to find and too expensive ($570+ if you can find them) I started looking at 315/75/16's (37's would be better but in 16" theyre running over $600 ea). Theyre a bit short but will do the job. What I need to find is a tyre that is reasonably long lasting (the 9.00's are good for about 45K) with a strong sidewall and suitable for anything from street to sand to mud to rock, not extreme stuff, just any and every type of surface anywhere around the country.

So, what are Xterrains like?
radial claws?
all terrain procomps or mickey MTX?

Cheers

The M/T radial Claws & X/Terrain are essentially the same tyre & are both made by the Cooper Avon Tyre Company. Mid September will see the first shipment of GoodYear MT/R's arrive in a 315/75R16. Only 90 tyres in this first batch though so order NOW if you want them. Any of the above are satisfactory for all roads use.

Check Load Ratings though, before you purchase. I would be surprised if the 315's would be suitable.

dont tease me.....
how much? new or s/h?

maybe I should just buy silverstones and change them regularly? at ~200 ea their tempting, apart from them being illegal and horrible on the road....

tyre / max load / load rating
xzl 9.00r16 / 1450kg (1800@80psi) / d
xzl 8.25r16 / 1450kg / d
xterrain 315/75/16 / 1450kg(3195lb) / d
xterrain 325/80/16 / 3525lb / e
radial claw 315/75/16/ 1450kg / d
mtx / 1450kg / d
thornbird 35.12.5.16 / 2500lb /
truxus 35.12.5.16/ 3640lb/
ssr 35.12.5.16 / 3640lb/
ssr 37.12.5.16 / 3640lb/
mtr 315/85/16 / / d
mtr 37.12.5.17 / / e

8.25r16 are standard ~34"
9.00r16 are optional ~36"

oka stats
gvm 5500kg
front axle max 2800kg
rear ale max 3400kg
kerb 3900kg (dual cab with rear box) 2200kg front, 1700 rear

looks to me like any load range d tyre would suffice? speed rating isnt important cause the Oka tops out at ~120kmh

Daryl,

just got in 35 x 12.5 17 X-Terrains
and 37 x 13.5 17 X-Terrains

Have been doing heaps of miles on the 325/80 R 16 X-Terrains.

Having owned Silverstones before. No Comparison. Q78 Swampers same.

Did 500 kays the other day. Bitumen overtaking at 160. Fast Dirt, Metre deep Snow then home again. Daily Driven, even let the wife drive on them.
