80 series Auto

Post by dipmaker »

After recovering my son's 80series gxl auto out of the mud last night he found that he had very little forward drive and then it gave up completely, but had plenty of drive in reverse. Checked the auto transmission fluid and that was o.k. Anybody else had simillar problems? or any advice would be greatly appreciated.

As in oil ok does it smell burnt and is it still red?And with verry little drive does the car feel gutless maybe just stuck in third due to elec fault and try manual low and see if that makes a difference.

No the oil seems fine and the car has plenty of power, heaps of revs and sometimes will creep forward a couple of inches and just gives up again, just like when a manual has a slipping clutch.

More info.....did water get into the cabin??? The puter is above where the clutch pedal would be...if the auto looses power to the solenoids, you will get this happening. Check fuses/links, etc
If it is shagged, i have a spare:)

Yeah he did give it heaps trying to get out of the mud. No water got into the cab, it was thick sticky mud that he was stuck in and it took a huge effort to snatch him out so he may have damaged the torque converter. there is a mechanic having a look at it today so I will pass on any info received, thanks heaps for the help so far.
Cheers, Steve.
