Jackaroo recall

Post by toby »

For those not aware a new recall is out on the turbo diesel. Apparently affects all models from 98 to 04. They will replace all injectors on these cars free of charge. About time too.

that will be costing holden $$$$$$$. It's a big job. They could have done this when they did the injector seals the first time. I wonder if this caused any of the engine blow ups that i have heard of?

Seen plenty of blow ups. Have been in one that blew up. The injectors were worth bout $1000 retail bout 2 years ago EACH!!!!!!!!!!!
They have replaces the injector seals, then they replaced the injector sleeves, now the injectors. All as a re-call. Plus have seen plenty of injectors replaced under warranty for similar problems. The uncrontrolable engine acceleration isnt a myth too. Had a customer bring in a jackeroo that just started to rev itself to bits, then bag show over.

Do they know what causes these engines to blow up? is it the injectors? or is it somthing else? I've heard if they do blow up you can't rebuild them because you can't plain the head. i'm still not sure if this is true or not.

Cheers!

The Jackeroo uses a CRD injection. Because there are issues with the sealing of the injectors and injector sleeves oil is able to contaminate the fuel rail inside the head, leading to motor failure. The motors can simply overspeed themselves, or fail due to the contamination of the oil and fuel from the leaks. They have replaced the injector seals, the injector sleeves and now the injectors. You can rebuild a jackeroo motor, used to do it regually. Mainly from the faults that they are still trying to correct.

The 4JX1 actually uses HEUI (Hydraulic Electronic Unit Injection) not CRD (Common Rail).
HEUI is designed and Manufactured by CAT. CAT have now gone away from this in some of their new engines (ACERT) for emission issues.
I have just got mine back from the dealer, all is well. Will have a copy of the recall from GMH soon I hope. Might have info on whats was done.

Is there anywhere I can find a list of all the recalls on Jackaroos (of all ages from say early 90's) or am I dreaming? Research for an article.....

I think i said in my PM, but pretty sure holden should be able to comfirm it. When the recall is done there is a recall sticker attached to the vehicle ( rhs pillars i htink, or maybe the glovebox, cant remember) and the vehicle vin is recorded and updated on holdens online database that dealers use to confirm work done warranty issues ETC.

Just had my 2001 Jack done last week, all good. New injectors seem to have it running smoother and more responsive. Once work completed the sticker is placed on drivers side front pillar.

For anyone who bought/buying second hand make sure you complete change of ownership form in front of hand book and send to Holden. Then you will be automatically contacted about any recalls.

My missus Uncle and Aunty have their jack booked in for the recall fix too.
Funny though, the thing has never had a single problem and never missed a beat.
I guess the problem rears it's ugly head when the mileage gets up?

Not always, have seen problems in all range of KM's. Some jackeroos have heaps of problems, some go for ever without issue. Luck of the draw??
