60 Series Temp & Fuel Gauge Issues

Hey All

I just came back from a holiday, went down to thredbo for a week (approx 3500kms round trip). I noticed several times after being on the road for a while my fuel gauge would go all the way past the full mark "F" and the temp gauge would go all the way past the hot mark "H" and scare crap outta me, oil pressure didnt change nor did the smoothness of the motor so it wasnt running "hot". Both gauges would move at the same time but go up slowly and straight back down! to where they originally where

What is this? is it an earth problem? or does my car just thrive on scaring the sh!t outta me and making me stress to no end?

Hi

I had the same problem with my HJ60

I was told that i is a cheramic resistor on the backside of the gauge, that is "overheating"

Mine only does when it is really hot (Over 30 C) = almost never in Norway, so I havent done anything about it, but it scared the sh*t out of me the first time :)

I'll se if I can find a pic and post it.

Have had the same thing in our '85 HJ60 Sahara
1st time it happened scared the crap outta me.. its usually only when im driving on the highway

yeah its only does it on the highway, and that was the first long trip ive done in the car, but what made it more scary was it did it while going up toowoomba range, but it went up and down so i figured it wasnt overheating then that was the beginning of it.

it's a common problem with the 60's - we've all been there, scared me the first time too. There are either capacitors or resistors (can't remember) on the back of the guages that can be replaced with "solid state" ones, whatever that means, or at least that was what an instrument bloke did to mine to fix the problem.

where would i go to fix it? Auto Elecy? and how much?

is that not solid enough for you?
