Welding Engine/Chassis Mounts

Post by BUNDERA »

What are the regulations in regarding welding your own engine/chassis mounts?

Do you need to get them engineered?

Cheers,
Nick

In victoria YES. If you are talkin about your engine conversion yeah.

Didn't you say your in TAS. Check your local engineer best bet. Or run the guantlet.

I would say it would have to be because you are modding the mounts from manufacturers spec. This would prolly also imply a qualified frabricator as well.

My old man built a Cobra and made all the sub frame and shiz himself found out he had to be DLI so went to night school to get his stuff passed an engineer.

I have done this heaps of times, and can only advise on QLD regs.
Must be engineered. If doing it for the first time, check with your local engineer as he will want specific size and gauge steel, will want to know weld preperation and how it was welded. They may even require a drawing with dimensions. Prepare it well and fab it properly. I know for a fact that what is acceptable in WA and NSW is not always acceptable in QLD (damm tuffer regs). So check with engineer first. Not hard to do, just put some thought into it and do it well( ie; not pelican shyt welds).
