Is there such thing as a TJ without airbags?
Ive been looking/researching TJ's for the last week, thinking of maybe buying during winter as a real summer car. Bonus that its coil sprung and swb...!
Ive been looking under the assumption that there are some out there without airbags as i have a 3 - 4 inch lift in mind, along with maybe a body lift and or custom barwork...
airbags screw this up. I cant find any without airbags..
how is everyone else bodylifting etc...

All the gear, No idea...
I know a few T's without airbags - mostly removed for comp use.
Offically recently there was a ban on Body lift if the vehicle has SRS airbags, but fitting was never an issue (nor was deployment).
As it currently stands most people jus seem to ignore the rule - much like varuous tyre rules etc. (not saying it's right or wrong just an observation).
But air bags have no bearing on suspension lift - so the simple thing si don't do a body lift

Tell me, the "warn" front bumpers, would they affect the airbag sensors etc (similar to putting a non-airbag compatible bar on a patrol with airbags?)
I want to get 33's under there, (would LOVE some 35's under there) but the jump from a 3.5 inch kit to the 4.5 inch kit is over $1600! and even with a 3.5 i would still need to body lift to clear 33's. If i went and spent up on 4.5 lift i would want 35's which also req. body lift.
I like a bit of fun offroad but not enough to warrant super full 35" clearance at super flex... 35's just seem to fill the guards SO much better than 33...
The only thing stopping me going 35's is the damn diffs!!! (35's = stress/broken bits on the D30/35 no?)

All Aussie TJ's have a D44 rear diff. So that makes 35's a bit more of a doable option. If you are going for a Rubicon Express lift you can fit 33's with the 3.5 coils alone. 35's with the 4.5's, but it gets tight. I run the 4.5 coils with 33's as i didn't want extra wear and tear of 35's (wheel bearings, brakes etc) on my daily driver and i pretty much get most places blokes on 35's go.
You need to add some flares if you want the 12.5 width tyres, and some 8 inch rims too.
A locked TJ on 33's with decent suspension will get you a lot further than you think. And yes, silver is a cool colour. If i could choose i would go white or silver.

1. its in WA
2. Its a bit newer than what I wanted
3. reason i want a jeep is to pay out the loan on the patrol, have a fun (and slightly cheaper) car, done up the way 'I' want and still put a bit of cash in the bank.
4. its not silver and allready more than i wanted to spend.
I allready have a set of 33" claws. I was hoping to spend no more that 5k on doing up a rig.
its a sweet jeep tho. Really would have considered it a bit more if it wasnt in WA.

flares will cost a few hundred too, you'd want adjustable panard rods front an drear if you lift kit doesn't come with them..that be a few hundred....upgrade the tie rod if your wanting to push 35's that 'll be a few hundred too.

The d30/D44 comb is strong enogh for 35's - but the problem is the diffratios are likely to be crappo 3.07 instead of the 4.1 - 4.56 that you'd ideally want with that size of tyre

There are SO many options - some good and some not so good, largely it comes down to your budget, how much wrenhcing your prepared to do yourself and ultimately what size tyres you really wanna run.

That's not a bad plan as described above. you will need wider rims & flares to hold those 33x12.5"s...or you might wanna consider 33x10.5"s.
If the body lift is a concern, either fit longer bump stops or consider a 4.5" lift.
If you do consider a 4.5" kit then you can decide if you wanna go for long arms etc

ok sorry sir camel/stu. The budgeting I'd done was only very rough rrp sorta pricing for estimation purposes. Was planning on doing 90% of wrenching. mostly everything except maybe SYE and/or Diff gears..

That would be the base kit which doesn't include arms etc.
It's really getting a bit beyond the ability of the stock arms and you'll also need rear upper adjustable arms for the SYE.
The R&P sets will be a bit more than that plus you'll need to get an install kit since the seals & bearings etc probably have 100K on them. You SYE price is a little light too becuase you'll also need a rear driveshaft.
As for fitting the SYE - if you are comfortable spining spanners the SYE isn't that hard to DIY.
But some other items you've probably over estimated the $$ a bit. but there's a bit of planning - and we probably spend more time preparing (sometime custom) plans for people than just about any other activity....It's not brain surgury, but different people have differnet needs/budgets/wants, and it's not just a case of grabing the first & cheapest parts as their is also some not so hot setups possible.

i run the RE 3.5" kit (4.5" superflex kit but only using 3.5" coils) on mine with 33x12.5 rubber (Cooper STT's). It is a little tight at full flex but it works very well. I am getting a 1" BL and a 1" MML for that little extra room. I am thinking about long arm's and 4.5" coils though so i can fit 35" claws on her and make the onroad ride a little more comfy.
