Alternative Fuel Tank

Does anybody know any alternatives for fuel tanks that I can sling from the underside of my tray on my hilux? I need something relatively flat and squareish. Width and length aren't a real problem but it needs to be thin.

Alternatively, does anybody know where I can go in Brisbane to have one made at a reasonable price?

The stock tank is in the way of my planned linked rear suspension but it has always been vulnerable to rocks etc in the current location.

Before people tell me about the patrol one that fits beteween the rear chassis rails behind the diff - it won't fit. I've already removed too much of my chassis for departure angle.

All suggestions welcome!!

how much fuel capacity do you want ?
the 100 series stock 2nd tank is 45l i think, its very nice and flat and would site up nice and high, ive got one at home ill try and take some pics of it

i was thinking of using it, but 45L aint that much, and would be a Scanas to keep stopping to put more fuel in all the time

Hit the wreckers yards.... some of the early datsun 120Y's and the toyota corolla's had thin tanks, about 200mm by 200mm square and around the 900mm in length. I have one here that is going into a mates MQ patrol beside the gearbox/transfercase. Other than that try the local welding/engineering shop, they should be able to press up some sheet metal and weld it up for you ( 1.6mm sheet is good enuff), testing it for leaks is simple... put 15lb of air pressure in it and run soapy water around the welds.....leaks will bubble !

check out the overkill fuel tank on his buggy. looks pretty simple to knock up and he may be able to do it for you or advise what materials were used and a rough cost.

I have a approx 130 to 140lt fuel tank that I used to have under my tray for sale, it measures 1400mm x 640mm x 150mm but it doesn`t have a sender or anything in it. I only used it as a holding tank and just pumped from it to the standard tank. I`m shore it wouldn`t be that hard to put a sender etc in to it.

I have one that's 20cm x 95cm x 120cm.. It was designed for under a ute tray.. It holds around 220l I think.. PM me if you're interested.

why not put it in front of the diffbetween the chassis rails , or are you going a linked rear end

it says in his first post hes going linked rear end :finger:

but i was thinking that the gq tank might fit above the chassis rail just behind the cab (kind of where POS has his tank mounted), depends how hi ya tray is and where your upper links are being mounted.

does anyone have the dimensions of the gq tank handy?

That wont work for me unfortunately. There will be fairly limited space as I'm trying to keep the tray as low as possible for CG and must maintain adequate vertical separation at the chassis end of the links to ensure correct geometry. Thanks for the tip though.
