cutting guards on MQ

i have done a search and read only that the rear guards are a prick to cut is this true? also there are no pics left of what people have done.
My front quarters i dont belive i will have to much problem with but some posts say you need to weld a plate in after cutting the guards.
is there anywhere i can find some pics or does anyonw have any
thanx.
