I bought stuff from USA once. Got all the way over here to Adelaide via Sydney and DHL shipping "lost" it at their Adelaide depot.
The supplier chose DHL but DHL say I had to put a claim in with the supplier, the supplier says vice versa.
These **nts dont wanna know ya when they "lose" ya stuff so be warned.
I say DHL shipping are responsible for losing my stuff which they wont replace, they wont even accept a claim from me! so I dont recommend DHL shipping to anyone!

I have ordered a few things from the US, both 4wd and for work. The only problem I have had is that I received some faulty valves (for work) and the company wouldn't credit them. When they are in the US, there isn't much I could do about it. Only talking a few hundred dollars and the amount I save is worth the risk for me.

Re: USA PARTS
Besides the obvious RHD to LHD difference, our Toyota "mini trucks" started to differ in 1986 when IFS was introduced. By 1995, when ours became the Tacoma, it no longer shares many parts with your Hilux. Be sure you know exactly what you are buying as returning a part bought in error will cost you overseas postage and often re-stocking fees. Most Toyota shops here are not familiar with the later Hilux, so you are on your own to know if it will work.high_lux wrote: just wonted to know if anyone if getting parts from over seas and will there trucks differ from our hiluxes,

some things to keep in mind when buying stuff from the US is that customs will hold your goods if the total value (including shipping costs) exceeds $1000 AU. Due to the free trade agreement you are not required to pay duty but you will be required to pay GST and a handling fee.
I can recommend Rock Buggy Supply in the states for stuff, good communication and service, my order was bungled up (AA 4.7 gears) and they sent the correct gears without me having to send the wrong ones back or pay for anything (as you would expect but doesnt always happen).

I say shop local. If noone buys parts from Australia the economy of scale suffers and parts will stay expensive. I realise everyone wants a bargain but a least if you buy here you can deal with people direct and I have found buy staying with limited parts suppliers I get pretty good deals cause I get a lot of stuff from them.
Anyhow thats just my two cents

I will always try to support Australian but when i can save 3-400 dollars my money will go overseas to me that is a huge amount of money that i cant afford to spend because it is an australian product.
When buying in the US i have my goods sent to my sister and then she sends them to me, if they are a "gift" or not new then you dont have to pay anything, also she can deal with the company if something is wrong

Import taxes are still due on used product if it has a declarable value/invoice.wrksux wrote:I will always try to support Australian but when i can save 3-400 dollars my money will go overseas to me that is a huge amount of money that i cant afford to spend because it is an australian product.
