here are a few photos of a vehicle i am building for a well known customer in melbourne for next years outback challenge.
LWB SIERRA CHASSIS HIGHLY MODIFIED.
3.5 LITRE ISUZU V6 WITH AUTO.
HILUX REAR AND BUNDY FRONT DIFFS.
CUSTOM COILS ALL ROUND.
CUSTOM VITARA EXTRA CAB BODY.
LOTS OF OTHER STUFF.
ENGINEER APPROVED AND WILL BE REGISTERED AS INDIVIDUAL BUILD.

I noticed that too. It looks like the springs can quite easily go out further than that. I have my springs inside the chassis rails and it does make quite a difference. You may find you'll have to up the spring rate to cut down the body roll. Ideally you'd be best putting them on outboard of the chassis rails, but tyre clearance during wheel travel can be an issue, as Bentzook has recently discovered. Shocks will be less effective in that position too.
Would be interested to hear why you're running this suspension setup. Especially when the front appears to be a radius arm set up. Won't this force all of the flex to the rear and unbalance the car? Or are sway bars being fitted?
Fab work looks pretty good.

mmmmmm...ok.this thing runs tj coils[front]all round,so spring rate is not an issue.it is built to go fast,handle corners at high speed and get airbourne and land evenly.because of the high speed nature wheel travel has been sacrificed.the front end maintains toyota arms because of strength and ease of engineering.like i said this is designed for handling not wheel travel.a fully triangulated rear will put less stress on the bushes as well as maintaining more axle rigitity without using a panhard rod.it also protects the arms a little more from rocks.when all is complete the front will come in at 900kg and the rear will come in at 900kg.keeping the vehicle evenly balanced from front to rear will help out in high speed landings.like i said not for wheel travel.

One of the guys over here used TJ coils all round but later changed to a stiffer rate inthe rear. The springs are out board and it is a light weight buggy.. I think that is why people are asking questions.
Anyway looks like you have got a good handle on things! So get her built and show us some of these acrobatic pictures!!!

I'm just interested as I have 175lb/in springs (linear rate) in the back of mine and it's too soft, and my springs & shocks are further out that those.
The TJ coils are probably rising rate springs, so that will help matters a bit.
i dont get it if you want it to corner well then you would want to maximze roll stiffness by putting the springs as far apart as possible. simple lever priciples apply. have a look at offroad racing buggies, the suspension is normally as close to the wheels as practical.
the ltr shocks are valved for an 80 series and will be run at 80 psi.looks alot narrower on photos.let me get closer to completing cause a lot more goodies are comming.

Yep it'll be heavier but with Vit body, hilux diffs, V6 donk, auto trans what do you expect. But to put things in perspective, what do you think a Outback Challenge prepped Patrol weighs?
