The parts of a CV are:

Bell and stub (main body of the CV and integral stub axle)
Star (part inside with splines)
Balls
Race (part that holds the balls in place)

Do you mean that you have a chip in the race of your CV? Is it really a chip or is it a crack?

If it is a crack - sounds like it is on the way out - if it is a chip, how could it have happened and is it somewhere it will matter strength-wise?

i know what you mean, i had one the same. i put it back in and it was very clicky. it held up to a locked hiding until i snapped the axle part of the cv. i ran it for prob 6 months, was just annoying and embarasing everytime i pulled on lock.
