New 4.8 auto mods

Post by RogTJ »

I am about to take delivery of another vehicle, to replace V8 100 series set up for touring plus TJ wrangler that was well set up for off road. The plan is to have a capable on and off road vehicle suitable for daily driver, towing camper trailer and reasonable off road capability. So far planning the following mods and wonder if anyone has any further ideas / feedback? It will all be done in one hit.
Suspension - Tough Dog 45mm adjustables on 2" HD springs, castor correction and steering damper, replace rear lower control arms same time. Should I also do sway bar disconnect at the same time? Any other ideas?
Drive train - Prolockers with change diff ratio from 3.545 to 4.11, Marks adaptor electronic speedo correction, diff breathers extended
Tyres - 285/70/17 Cooper STT's (already have these)
Factory winch bar and towbar "free" with vehicle, will live with these
Warn 9.5XP winch off Optima blue top battery to replace standard one (have 2 of these in garage unused at present)
70+ odd litre aftermarket sub-tank (none in standard vehicle any more so more comprehensive fitting involved)
Sliders (which to get?)
Snorkle, K&N filter to improve breathing (intake side)
Refit old Black widow drawers and cargo barrier from LC100
Second battery and controller under drawer system (Will not fit in front)
HIR IPF's off LC100 to be fitted
May change exhaust some time for HPC coated high flow system but not urgent.

Thanks for any feedback / ideas on the above setup. Really want to do it once and do it right. Not interested in bigger tyres of bigger lift so will stick to these specs. Cheers, Rog

A mate has a 4.5 ti gu auto and it takes off downhills too quickly as compared to the rest of our mob that has Manual diesels.
He is installing a set of 85% reduction transfer gears as this should give him a lot more control descending hills, as opposed to being on the brakes all of the time.
These are especially good if you, like us, are regularly towing a camper offroad.
There are a lot of threads on these gears, just do a search
We are going with the Gearmaster as opposed to the rockhopper set as the gearmasters have a Backlash eliminator
05 Patrol ST-S 4.2 Tdi with some stuff.

My opinion is every Auto Patrol needs 85% reduction gears. Awesome improvement, offroad. I have Gearmasters and have a smile on my face every time i pull the lever to 4 Low. The 5 speed 4.8's have slightly better low range gearing as 1st gear is lower (compared to 4 speeds) but this is almost completely offset by the high 3.545 diff ratio's std.

G'day

Im just about to take delivery of a 02 4.8ltr with all them mods and more, i cant wait..
I can let you know that a 78ltr tank from Longer ranger tanks, is over 1k (for the extra 40ltrs)
I said NO of course, I will see if I can get it any cheaper else where...

I am also going to put mine on LPG, i reckon as fuel prices are not comming down...only prob it isnt available every where, but it will get there as fuel prices keep growing....

It already has the cooper st's on it.. TJM gear all the way through it. ARB diff locks front and rear, front bar, warn winch, towbar, lifted springs and shocks xgm?, snorkle, cargo barrier, side steps, tint. So I cant wait

I dont have the draws, and a second battery may be my only other thing to change.. oh and a set of driving lights..

can take some pics if you like..

Thanks for the ideas!

Now considering LPG instead of second tank, keeping the 95 L standard tank. Has anyone tried this?
