I think it comes down to how tall"lifted" the vehicle is. I think the wheel base of a Patrol wagon is ideal.

also what is it going to be used for? Winch events, rock crawling, touring, towing, work truck? Size of tyres, type of terrain driven in? Legalities of conversion as well?

I've been pondering this idea too. Was gunna cut wagon into extra cab with tray and thought why not mid it aswell.

I made an enquiry on tailshaft shortening - $100

How much would fuel tank cost to shorten?

What other mods are req'd aside from cutting chassis? Would i need double cardan joints for middy?

my wheelbase is a true 100" after the lift .that is a 6" extension , we done this so the rear arms wernt too long and we still use the original fuel tank behind the axle. we did need to modify the chassis to mount the tank back in.

It also comes down to how you drive and if you want to attempt driving some of the steeper hills. You will notice that the SWB and MID will come up to a steep hill and give it a light attempt then winch where is the LWB's will come up to the steeper hills then nuts it :D and have a better chance of driving it with out landing on its lid. Really I cannot think of anytime where the SWB and MID's were better of in the comp scene.

How about tight turns and ramp over?
In some scenario's my short zook will turn a tight bend in 1/3 the time a GQ wagon.
