FJ45 Questions
My girlfriend's dad has got an 1977 Landcruiser Ute. He has asked me about doing some mod/conversions to it and I thought you guys should be able to help me.
At the moment it's got a 2F motor and he'd like to put in a diesel. If he were to do this then he'd want to install a 5 speed box. If this is too much work/money then how does a 5 speed mate up to the 2F motor? Will he need a new bellhousing.
He has also enquired previously about power steering conversions but has been told that this is unavailable unless he wants to replace his whole front end. Is power steer an option on either a 2F or the FJ45 diesel option? And will it fit the '77 chassis?

cool, ok, easy, no.

yes, yes!
hands and mums dont count!!!
If you do it yourself it is a lot cheaper but if you are stuck for time or incompetant like myself then I would recomend EKKY 4x4 for doing the power steer conversion. I am running an fj45 and got ekkey to install the power steer. Cost was about $1300 but I am very happy with it.
Just about every piece of the 45 series steering was replaced and thats no big deal because 45 standard steer sucks arse. Even in top notch condition a 45 steers were it wants. All mine was replaced with 60 series and whatever else he had laying around. Much bigger everything and it twirls 35mt's with airlockers with no effort at all.
80kph on the road was about the max of controlability before but with the new setup my rig will sit on 130 no probs without the evil wandering all over the road. Also got the steering colum shortened by about 30mm while it was there (doesnt cost any more) so I can fit my fat gut in there.
I dont think he would have any problems fitting it to any engine. Wacked it all on my 308 without a drama and he changes engines like undies so I definatly wouldnt think it would be a problem.
Here is his phone if you want to check it out, he is down near the gold coast.. 07 5578 4475
BTW hey BJ

power steering can be done by getting a later model 40 series power steering box and pump and just bolting it up or going for a 60 series box and pump. 60 is the better way to go as you lose the relay rod and that stupid pivot on the chassis.
I have a 40 series power steering box and pump if you want it.

I will give him this information and see what he wants to do. Mickbj42, I'll be in touch if the plan goes ahead. Thanks for your help guys.

Amazing - that was just what was running through my head too!
If I do have any detailed questions - I'll at least know who to ask.
