replaced gearbox, tranny and diffs oil yesterday all with the right oils according to the guy at the auto shops bible on that sort of stuff .

I think diffs were 75-80W
tranny and gearbox 85-90W.

Anyway my fourth and fifth gears seemed a little noisy before i did the change over and now it seems like its even noisier. Whats the go? Should I have gone some thicker oil?

Also the rear diff seems noisier as well. It might be that i'm concentrating more on those noises now that i've changed the oil and I also replaced the window glass seals meaning i don't get the rattly window noisy either which might enhance the other noises....am not too concerned but i thought someone might have a logical explanation for this.

sorry bout long winded explanation!

cheers

my car sierra was making the worst noise in the back a couple of months back, i took it to a transmition shop as i thought it was the transfer case, they came to the conclusion that it was the transfer,

ended up he suggested replacing the rear wheel bearings first so i did and that was where the noise was coming from,

so even though it sounds like diff, gearbox whatever start with the easy cheap shit thats going to improve your car anyway.

thats my opionion,

Had an Trooper like that a few years ago . Was due inspection so asked the mechanic to change the rear wheel bearing as it was noisy . Got car back , passed , said it was the gearbox not a bearing , huh .
Took the thing to a gearbox shop , "nope not the box its your diffs mate" . Off to the diff shop , "no sunny its the gearbox" .
To another box shop , "no idea mate , leave it until its really bad then we will know what it is "

Finally got really ticked off and replaced the rear wheel bearing myself and problem solved . When you look back I have no idea why I listened to them in the first place .

Cheers

Chris
