Tuning the 2.6

Post by mrx78u »

Hi Chaps,

I need to spend some time getting the tune right on my 2.6 (Astron) pajero and was hoping that someone with a little more experience than myself would be able to enlighten me as to the bset way to do this. I'm not wanting to go to the point of getting a dyno tune, because i'll be replacing the carb soon and i'll need to do it all again.

Thanks in advance guys.
Mick.

yeah the was a decent article in 4wdm a few months ago.

options are

-change carby from minuki to webber
-new cam
-port and polish
-machine a bit off the head to increase compression

and the best is change car to efi using a magna (also had astron engine) intake manifold.

4wdm huh? Bugger would have been an interesting read. I've got the weber, but i'm not too sure about going ahead with that. Was leaning towards the Efi option.

Yes it can be done. It does require modifying the plenum, and you'd stick with the paj head from memory.

I was more so looking for some info on getting timing and idle set correctly. The efi or weber will come later.

Oh by the way, if you go to Efi, then you need to run new fuel lines (high pressure), you need a high pressure fuel pump, i'm not sure if the paj has return fuel lines. and so on.

Another option I've heard, but don't know much about, is (EA?) falcon throttle body on the Paj carby manifold. You'd need a computer, for which I'd look at MegaSquirt - you can buy them pre-assembled if you're not an electronics nerd.

Still need the high pressure pump etc, don't know how you'd generate a timing signal for the injectors. Falcon throttle body should have throttle position sensor, Megasquirt comes with manifold pressure sensor, you need air temp sensor, coolant temp sensor.

Hmmm. Magna injection does look pretty good.

Good luck,

Scott
