Carrying capacity.

Post by ZOOK92 »

Just a quick question. How long can the overhang length be for some thing on the roof of a car. I have checked the RTA website with no sucess. I want to carry my 15ft canoe on the Sierra's roof ( i have a cradle for it) but i dont want to get pinned for excess length protrusion. Any help would be great.

I think its 1.2meters past the rear with a 200mm X 200m red flag, not sure about the front, this is for a truck, may be the same for you.

in queensland it is 60% of your wheelbase out rhe back and 1.2m infront of your headlights.

wheelbase is measured from centre of wheel to centre of wheel, and then 60% of that from centre of rear wheel is your max.

= 15'9" total length based on an 88" zook wheelbase.
