hi all
i went to my toyota dealer toyday to pick up my new 100 wagon and inquired about trading the toyota t/d ute in for a new one and was told to wait till march because there is a new shape ute on the way with a TWIN TURBO V8 donk in it its the real deal im told... has anyone else heard of this?? the dealer was dead serious as he could have easily have sold me a current one easy enough...

their has also been speculation that the cruisers will not come in a six any more all will now be V8's. also talk of the utes maybe being IFS????????? but i question that pretty hard.

new cruiser
mate, ive said this before and got shot down for it....i work at toyota altona and can confirm from reliable sources that toyota IS bringing out the new troopy and cruiser ute later this year, the shape hasn't changed much, and yes it does have a v8 diesel, but only a single turbo, non-intercooled.
The twin turbo intercooled model is being save for the new cruiser wagon which is a totaly new shape and will come out late next year. was supposed to come out with the ute and troopy but had some sort of problems.
Yes they are common rail diesels, their torque figures I heard would challenge an F-series 7.3, and your all more than welcome to shoot me down again over my comments as you all did last time.

Any body know how big the V8 is? Is it a baby V8 like the 4.7L?? or has it got some metal behind it like The F-Trucks 7.3L? As long as it has that V8 Diesel Rattle im happy

in regards to GOTOYS request for evidence on torque figures, I assure you I dod not make them up and how can you get evidence when it is told to you buy an engineer? Was I supposed to record him saying it to me, or should I have said to him "hold on a sec, let me tape you on my mobile so I cxan put it in the forums because no one will beleive me otherwise"?

We've rolled the Rover over, over.
I'd love to think that we'll get a TT 6.2V8, however the modern Japanese trend seems to be towards turbocharged and intercooled multivalve smaller displacement engines to meet emissions, rather than bigger displacement ones. Have a look at the 2.5L TDI in the Pathfinder / Navara putting out over 400Nm.OISTA wrote:the toyota rep would not give direct answers but he said it 'may' be a 6.2L V8 turbo diesel.
Still, IFS is not cool
And if conservative Toyota did release such an animal, it would come out first in other parts of the world and Lexus models here first, before being mainstream - and then we couldn't afford to buy it anyhow.

The FJ cruiser from the states was supposed to come here. I talked to Jogn Conomos personally at a private work function earlier this year and I brought up this particular subject. His response was that Toyota Australia pushed very hard to try and get the FJ Cruiser here as the original FJ has a strong and reliable heritage here ever since the building of the Snowy Mountain Hydro scheme (which is when they were brought in to Australia).
The reasoning we didnt get it here is because for us to get it, we need to justify the building of right hand drive models via the number that we sell, and our market here is too small to justify building it. Toyota Australia lobbied Japan and England to convince them to have it, because if we could get them to sign up to it, it would be a goer, but they wouldnt have a bar of it, saying something like there wouldnt be a market for them in England and Japan.
Anyway, hoped that helped ya, and will let you know as soon as I hear more on fourby topics.

like I said, as soon as I find more info and maybe a sneak pic, I let you guys know, but thats all I know bout now.
Personally in my own opinion, as good as they are offroad, I dont see toyota going live axle at the front again, other than possibly the new cruiser utes, as most of the 4x4's sold these day are kept and used on the black-top, something like 75-80% of the sold fourbies never see a gravel road, let alone mud and bumpy hills etc.

I was talking to my brother today..
he's in the army and has been loading supplies up in darwin for the last 3 weeks for the east timor efforts.
he told me that he was loading onto the ships brand new cruisers that had a 'heap of power' and a decal on the rear saying '3700 bi-turbo'
he popped the hood and sure enough, twin turbo diesel V8.
they were for the federal coppers that are going to timor, they had all the light racks and stuff for the coppers but also had in dash sat-nav (not sure if it was aftermarket or not?)
so my guess is that there will be a 3.7 litre twin turbo v8 diesel released in the not too distant future.
just thought i'd relay what he saw first hand. i'm bummed he didnt take a pic with his phone! apparently they look pretty much like the 78/9 series.
