LPG Fitter

Post by boobotam »

Hi all,

I am purchasing a GQ shorty 4.2 petrol but the old hip pocket is going to suffer so I was wondering if anyone knows of a good fitter that can do second hand gear if that is legal, if not does good rates on new systems in either the Sydney or Melbourne areas. I live in good old Wagga Wagga but am willing to travel for the right price.

Cheers Matt

The Car Doctor. In west sydney, near winsdor. A while ago i asked for a price for an LPG setup on an old falcon, he said to expect about 2500. All new stuff. Not too sure what it was using 2nd hand stuff but his advice was it prolly wouldn't be worth the hassle comparing to the little you would save.

PM me if you want his #

its not ilegal to install a second hand gas setup you can install the lot your self except the service line. hard part is finding one that will pass it after thay will all tell you horror storys ect cause your cuting there lunch by doing it your self. trick is to find a decent one that will give you a run down on the regs of bolting the tank in and the wireing all he has to do is run a service line and test it for leaks. how ever as fuel gets more expencive im sure the lpg converters will clamp down on this to protect there small market. if you want more info pm me

I come from Wagga. The bloke near the overpass in dobney ave is supposed to be the best in town, But im not a real fan of him and he knows how to charge.

Try the bloke at gumly servo, Yeah the little dingy one near Gough and Gilmour. he should do a cheap job ( yes he is gas certified).

If ya have no sucess, Try albury as its only an hour and a half away and there are some nice blokes down there.

Up here in syd there is a mob in mount druitt i would give ya 2 cents for and there is one in polding st fairfield that done my rego yesterday and i couldda punched him when he chucked his pliers on my bonnet then just dropped my windsceen wipers on it as though he couldnt give a shit. I dint say a word due to him over looking a few things like lights on top of my bullbar and me runing 3 alloy and 1 steel rim( which had a mixture of long mag nuts and std nuts) . Seems to be very 4wd friendly ;)

accually it is illegal to install any part of the gas system that contains LPG as there is rules and regs that govern us qualified LPG fitters to where parts can be located and minimum clearances so it is not advisable to fit these parts yourself.

In the interest of public safety -- post up some basic info on these regs :D :D

(people are doing diy installs now, always have and always will. share some good tech)

BTW - Australia is about the only country in the world where its a no-no to install LPG yourself  . Its not exactly rocket science.

Typical wagga the bloke on dobney didnt answer his phone, and the bloke at gumly, only repairs now.

prob start looking at albury instead.

Might just be easier to pay the fuel bill or swap to the 4.2 oiler if that isnt a massive job ( I bet it is so I will just pay the petrol bill lmao)

geez, the bloke in dobney ave must be the only one in wagga doing gas conversion now. a nice niche in the market. ANother peerson to try is saddlers automotive, they done my blue slip so maybe, maybe they might do one .

Wagga would be a lot nicer place if busnesses actually had to work for there money instead of being the only one in town.

cheers

Oh, yeah remeber that canberra is only 2.5 hours away and its a nice drive via tumut. Try the gas bloke in tuggeranong ( Gas Tune ??? ), cant remeber his name exactly but he does good work. Funny how you immediatly remember the bad businesses and takes a while to remeber the good ones.
