Auto starts in 2nd

Post by Hoppy11 »

The commodore V6 and auto are running in the Hummer replica, but i discovered that when it is put into D it wants to start off in 2nd, if i pull it down to 1st it is fine, what would cause that??, and what can be done to correct it
Cheers

sounds like the neutral safety switch isn't aligned properly with the positions on the shifter

just have to remove it and re-adjust to suit the shifter positions

the shifter seems to move from P to R to N to D quite easily and engage properly, it just want to move off in 2nd not 1st

I sometimes have the same problem with the toyota auto in my 4runner. It only does it once or twice and then its fine for weeks

4 auto shops have tried but nobody has pinpointed it yet  Most say solenoid on the way out but at $400 a pop I'll wait till we know for sure before trying that one.

I know some of the european cars have a 'snow/frost' setting for the auto. that means it starts in second rather than low....perhaps there is a setting or a sensor that needs to set/installed.

I remember something about 1uz autos start from second gear always unless throttle is pushed hard or something.

How long has it been since you serviced the auto, maybe it needs to be flushed.

I had a V6 auto 4 runner which done the same thing. It was a solanoid inside the box, from memory it was code 62 and it cost $400.00 to have it replaced and solved the problem.

Thanks guy's, I spoke to the guy's from Chipmaster, they overrode the security on the computer, he says it an error code coming up in the computer, it is probably the speed sensor, seeing that we are using the Nissan cable from the transfercase, the computer isn't getting a reading from the speed sensor, so it goes into limp mode when in D, easy fix he says, but it needs to be plugged into a computer to determine the error code
thanks for your help and I will let you know what it is.

I never got back to this thread, it seems that that the rig was starting off the 3rd when in D, not 2nd and 2nd when in !st, the auto lecy left 1 ignition feed wire off, hooked it up and all was good, I thought that starting off in 2nd gave good wheel spin, actually starting in 1st is quite a thrill, awesome accelaration
