Changing my religion (Diesel to Petrol conversion)
Hi guys,
HEr lady of finance, the great and masterful Leonie (my wife), has given me approval to use my tax return to purchase a new engine for my SURF and begin the conversion.
However, at an estimated $1,500 to $2,000 to purchase a 1UZFE fornt cut (LExua 4l V*) versus $5,950 (quoted) to purchase a 1KZ front cut - I am making the conversion to PEtrol and going the Lexus.
I have just started the research in serious (have previously looked at the conversion out of curiosity but now serious) and should purchase the front cut in a month or so.
Then tinker for a few months, pull the good bits out of the front cut, buy a new loom, adapter kits, etc, do the conversion after christmas.
Should have a little bit of an increase in performance though. From a half dead 2.4l Diesel (78kw from the shop I think) to 208KW V8.
Fuel shouldn't be too bad, so I have heard, happy to hear contradictions tho.
That is my news. Am not normally much of a photo taker but will start a page or something to record the journey.

Crown half cut is the best to get when doing this motor swap to a hilux/4runner.
Conversion WILL!!!!!! cost you between $5000 and $7000, depend how much you do yourself.
I allways had the coal burners untill I decided it was V8 time. Dropping the 1UZFE into my hilux was one of the best things I have done to it.
ATM my hilux only gets driven if I`m going 4x4ing but in about 2 months time I am going back to working for myself and it will be an everyday driver again. At least this time I`ll get to the jobs a lot quicker

I am planning on going shopping for crown cuts over thenext couple of weeks.
The build up write ups I have been reading involve alot of work from a couple of brisbane shops so will talk to them then go ahead.
I have told said lady of finance that will likely cost 2 for half cut and another 4 for the swap (6 total).
The plan is to spend the first 2K shortly (on the half cut) then spend some time gettings things sorted over the next 6 months. Stripping the front cut, purchasing adapters for gearbox, etc. Then if I have the cash in 6 months will start the swap itself. Otherwise it might wait until next tax return. Shouldn't be too hard.
I was concerned about having the engine in the garage for so long but I am one of the worst savers you will have heard of. Doing okay for funds but if I tried to save the money and buy front cut when I have the money for the whole job - it would never happen.

Lexus V8 in Hilux
G'day Fella's,
I dont suppose any of you blokes out there with the V8 conversion in their rigs could state here what sort of fuel consumpotion figures you guys are getting with the V8?
Also what size tyres and diff ratios as they make a difference and Im interested in how the extra torque should benefit your economy.
Thanks mate,
Max.

All the figures below are for 100kms of driving with 33`s and 4.88 diff gears. 4x4ing fuel figures are with 35`s.
turboed 2.8, approx 12lts
turboed 2.8 towing work trailer, 15lts
turboed 2.8 4x4ing, approx 13/14lts
1uz V8, 15lts
1uz V8 towing, 17lts at the worst.
1uz V8 4x4ing, 30lts
Now think how with the V8 I am sitting on 100 - 120kms/hr all the time. Never down to 80 like it used to be with the 2.8TD when towing.
