99 GU UTE - Life expectancy?
99 GU UTE - Life expectancy?
My mate father has a 99 GU ute. now this ute has been used all for highway driving as he worked at the mines and would travel approx 10hrs home every week to see his family.
its a 4.2 diesel with 280,000 km's. Hes a diesel fitter by trade and has been regularly serviced.
How long do you think it would last. i know there meant to go for a while, but in only 8yrs it has done a few km's (easy ones though).
Pending it being in good nick, what would a 99 Gu ute with 280km's be worth?

ruins them...........jigga wrote:what does the mine environment do to the trucks?
mine was full of coal dust when i got it, the chassis rail was rusted out that i have replaced it. the foot well on the drivers side is very badly rusted.
Unless you like working on ya truck every weekend i wouldnt recomend it.......

Was this ute used in the mine?
Or was it jsut used as his daily car.
Must mine enviroment, are very harsh on cars. I would never even look at something from a WA mine. They will be all well rusted out. In the mines in Bendigo, anything that goes underground has to be serviced before its done the miles cos they usually brake stuff. CV's are placed not re-greased.
WA stuff has a really high salt content (heaps more than sea water). Most other mines are similar.
But if it has spent all its time above ground it may be worth looking at.
If its his daily driver, as in not the work truck. Then the motors are good for lots of kays (mate an 87 GQ LWB with other 1.5mil kays). Gear boxs are pretty good and HWY doesnt wear them out. I would be happy to buy a GQ/GU with that many kays on it.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
In the mines they are driven like they are stolen and nobody gives a rats about them. I could tell you some stories about them but i won't!
There's no way i would buy one. If it is white and second hand i won't touch it.......
This one sounds like it was just driven to work and home again, not a work vehicle at all. It would be a good buy in my books!
Cheers...............Pete!

Artificial Intelligence is no match for Natural Stupidity!
he was a diesel fitter and used to have his tool on the back. i dont think it went under ground. and yes, it was mainly used for highwy driving. I havent had the chance have a good look at yet. but i have noticed that the tray and bar have some surfice rust. so these engines are good for many more km's?
