Bodylift question
Hi,
just completed my 2" bodylift. Went really well and alot less time then i expected.
Was wondering if anyone that has done a 2" bodylift on a 4runner (1993) V6, if they did anything towards the steering.......reason im asking is because its a little tighter then usual but im not too fussed.
But....want to know if something has to be done also if i run like this will i break anything.

Bugger me, just finished 2" body lift on 94 V6 4Runner this afternoon.
Guess what? The steering has stiffened up and I was wondering exactly what the fix might be. Now I know.
Biggest hassle was extending the bullbar mounts and rooting around with extending the gear stick and freeing up the low range stick.
Went absolutely quicker and easier than I thought, but I've had enough of the garage for a month at least.
Tommorow it gets fitted with some loan 33" rims and tyres. Hope they fit

when i did mine i never extended the sticks just pulled the boot of and cut the metal bracket between the two sticks
and a bit of fileing at the back of the hole so it could go into 5th properly without popping out and thats all

Big thanks to Northern Suburbs Radiators and Melbourne Drive Shafts and Balancing for all your help and support.
I left the boots on but gave them a bit of surgery with a stanley knife, especially the low range boot. I was worried about eventually damaging the console if things were working too hard so I extended the gear stick which only took about one hour, after about two hours working out how to get the gear knob off. still havent worked it out so I cut the stitching on the vinyl console cover and sewed it back together afterwards as well as slitting all the boots so I could take the stick out with knob attached.
Overall though I am very pleased with the result.

this is how I bought my 4by:

And now with a few mods (Bodylift, lights, basket, towbar, 33" claws, etc)
the Mongrels and Claws both run 15x8 Landcruiser offset rims. Need to remove the front mud flaps because they are rubbing on full lock but besides that very happy as it only took a few hours.

has it really got a 2" sus lift.
I just lifted mines body by 2" and fitted borrowed 33" claws this afternoon and it looks the same height as yours. maybe my suspension has already been tweaked
I will shoot off a photo to your post tonight.
Doesn't it make the runners look tuuf compared to standard ones

mine had a 2" suspension lift before I bought it. the brand is OME and because it hadnt a towbar it has never towed so there was no sag in the back.Struth wrote:Looks very nice mate.

so in total: 2" suspension + 2" Bodylift + 33s = 6" higher then stock :-)
Personally I think it looks alot tougher now.

Have only had them on for a few hours but I tested full lock and they don't come within cooee of the mudflaps.
they have the same offset as the original 4runner alloys (as in the distance from the inside wall of the trye to the hub flange is the same).
Do you suspect it has also been sus lifted at some stage

I found turning the boot around and sticking the lowrange through the the other one worked well.
Did you also find the spline on the steering shaft a bit short. wondering how you over come the problem?
I loosened up the spline above the steering coupling and allowed it to move while I jacked the body up.
The workshop manual I have states that there should be 15mm of spline exposed normally and mine now has about 10mm exposed. It doesn't add up I know. I reckon I better check it out to make sure I don't suddenly lose steering.
I also noticed a ticking sound from under the truck that increases in frequency with the drive train speed. I reckon I have stretched the speedo cable and caused this noise. I will investigate tommorow.
It is all still behaving well and I will take it offroad this weekend and trial it out.
