Sticker Shock!

Post by drewe »

Just went to the parts store.... The head in the Roza is 'gone' so went to find out the cost of a new gasket set...

You see, I am trying to work out whether to fix the head I have (burnt out valves or seats), or just get a whole 'nother engine...

I nearly fell over - $250 for the TOP HALF ONLY! yep, thats the head, and head cover. Holy @#$@#$#@$@#$#@$#$#@$##@$#@!

I am going to call around a few other places tomorrow, but anyone else tried this? I think the current gasket is leaking, so I need a new one if I keep this engine, but OMG.

Maybe it is time for a JAP import motor?

Prices for Daihatsu gaskets are horrendous. They are a large cost of any repair job. I make all my own, or am careful how the old one comes off, so it can be reused with gasket goo, but thats a bit hard to do for a head gasket.

"Sticker" is the price sticker... So Sticker shock is shock at finding our a couple of 'bits of paper' (well, more than than, but not much!) cost $250!

I called the local Toyo place - after treating me like I had leprosy, they advised they could get one in 2 days for $67.50, but not without the exact engine model number, as well as a visit to the dealership to pay 'up front'.

@#%$@#$%@#%@#

I don't have time for this @#$@#$@#$#@$#

All I want is a Gasket to install on the weekend!

 We're talking head gaskets here! Would be interesting to how long it lasted though.

Daihatsu spares are a nightmare at the moment- Toyota haven't kept up their end of the bargain.....

Just ordered mine from Toyo for $69.50 - fair enuf, they said they should have for Friday....

HAd a chat to the guy, he treated me a little like cr*d again at the start, until I gave him my perspective - he was better from then on it.... His view was the nissan place across the road used to also be the Daihatsu dealer, so why couldn't they keep it? He can only order with pre payment, no returns, and has no idea what any of the parts are.... I got him to give me all the info he had, and chose the gasket i needed - he wasn't sure, and would only order after I said my risk, if I stuff up then that is my problem and won't say anything to him!

Man! I can see his POV too, so I can see this going downhill :(

Pity the Roza is in such bad nick I can't sell it anyway, cause with this level of service I think it is time - lucky I know a good wrecker!
