G'day all, I have an idea.

I've just spoken to Lightforce about a screw on bulb protector to replace the lens for daytime use. The idea is to allow improved airflow to intercoolers and radiators during the hotter days, which is easily and quickly changed over, because lets face it, most of our driving is done during the day, and touring with better air flow to the radiator would be a huge advantage. The 170's and 240's both have the same thread/globe size, so would suit these models, and I'm not too sure about the others.

Who would be interested in something like this ?

I would be worried about the extra force on the bulb socket...Something that slipped over the whole light like a wedge would be better, yah?

Sounds like a good idea to me.
2 points to think of -
1. Can they be made long enough to suit the HID globe conversions that a lot of people are fitting?

2. I would think the little leg that holds the lens from turning easilly may get worn with swapping them all the time and cause the lens to rotate with the vibrations of say a corrugated road.

Sounds good to me too, have to be round the $15 mark a pair though, much dearer and i doubt I'd bother.

Ausyota, yeah, your right about them getteing loose with a lot of use, The best thing to stiffen them back up it to put a hose clamp around the screw section to pull the tab down and lock them tight again, but all adds to the time it takes stuffing around swapping/adjusting them.

Yep, I'd be interested if the price was realistic.
I have a front mounted intercooler and last week fitted some aluminium mesh across the front of it (the stuff that you can get from Supercheap for $30).
I swear that after this my truck was noticably slower. Removed the mesh and exposed the cooler again and she goes like a train again.
All this is with some Lightforce 240's up front.
I figure that if a bit of mesh grill can make that much difference, then removing the two dinner plate sized lights would also make a sizeable difference.
I think I will start by experimenting with some home made plastic covers - an empty plastic peanut butter jar for example. But if Lightforce did a purpose made fitting I would buy it.
As soon as it was made idiot proof, someone went and designed a better idiot.

it may be a bit of a pain but i just use rubber stoppers avaliable from clark rubber and pull the bulbs out. the stoppers are the kind on the end of walking sticks etc. can supply pics if you want. think they are 38mm

Yes, i would definately be interested as i have a spottie in the middle of my roof for shooting. It would be good to be able to take the reflector off when not using it.

John H........... Putting mesh across the front of an intercooler will definately reduce it's effectiveness, the manufacturers will readily tell you this. Good move to keep it off.

mmm Yes I would be interested. As I plan I mounting 4 HID converted LF240's on the roof. And being a wagon I cant make a drop down bar. So this would mean I would be able to leave the mounts there and still maybe make it into carparks.

so does that mean if someone breaks there lens they can just unscrew it of another rig and be done. why not cable tie the whole light assy on to the bumper that way they can have it all with just side cutters
