Mitsu prices, you aint gonna believe this!

Mitsu prices, you aint gonna believe this!
Well , I was under the Paj on the weekend & saw that the O2 sensor must have been hit by something & was about to bite the bullet.
I rang Repco just to check if an non Mitsu part was available. Yes, a Bosch unit at $125 bucks.
So I called my Mitsu dealer & was quoted , wait for it.... $800 bucks!!!!
I said surely that cant be right, please check again, he did & said that was the best price he could give.
Now I've been surprised with Mitsu spare prices before , like $500 for a disc rotor, $2k for a diff hemishere (diff locker) BUT , this one surely takes the cake.
I am still overcome with disbelief.

I just got an $1880 bill for a DOHC timing belt change......
From a mitsi dealer.......
The thing that annoyed me was the alternator overhaul ($211) that was not needed, it was nice and quiet since I had done it 6 months ago ($120) and is now more rumbly that ever and also the antifreeze renewal that I had done 1 year previous.
And they didn't do the water pump.

yeah, timing belt's a biggie!
I had 3 done in my NK (did over 300k) , never had the water pump done though.
Dont use my NL as a daily driver now, so havent had one done yet.
Its mostly labour as the DOHC is a bugger to work on, I am told!

Cost me under $800 for parts, timing belt water pump , other belts, and hoses. Did the work my self.
Power window cable broke, if it had been a pre 4th month 94 model, would have cost $730. but cost me $217 because I could use the electric motor off the old one.
Some times it payes to cross check the price with several Mitsu dealers.
Ian, price up a Magna O2 sensor, could be way cheaper and prob, the same part.
The electric antenna mast can be replaced without buying a whole motor unit. Costs about $30 last time for me.

Mitsu prices
Well, finally it's the same everywere. Here, in Greece, Mitsu prices are almost a joke. If you say: "I go to a Mitsu dealer for spare parts" is the same as if you say: " I go to Count Dracula's for a tea". And everybody moves his head with compassion...

That's funny here in US sometimes prices at the Mitsu Dealer for OEM parts especially with online store are less then generic part from autoparts store.
Although that oxygen sensor goes for about AU$250 for rear and $120 for front one.

I had a slightly different experience recently: I'll bore you all with details.
I needed Pitman arm and idler arm assembly for my Paj. Searched here, everybody seems to use Powermax - OK.
Couldn't get prices on Powermax, but Repco offered two different brands in each, for reasonable prices - I didn't have to bend over as far as I thought.
Compared them, bought the TRW items, because they came with grease nipples.
Tried to fit them - couldn't remove the large nut securing the pitman arm, couldn't break the ball joint on the idler arm. OK, I suck as a mechanic.
Pay professional to fit both - Pitman arm done (eventually), Idler arm ball joint has incorrect taper. Call Repco, they measure taper on both their products - both too fat. But the balljoint on the Pitman arm was fine?
Mechanic wanted Paj out of shop, so I took a deep breath and called Mitsubishi. Genuine, $180 (vs $156 for TRW) or $106 for "Diamond Spectrum." Diamond Spectrum was on the shelf, genuine wasn't - so I bought the cheapy.
I think I'll call them for prices more often.
