VIC - Petition to stop Banning of motorsport on Private Land

Post by leehamescort »

Recent changes to Victorian planning controls NOW PROHIBIT a "Motor Racing Track" statewide in new rural zones. The definition of a Motor Racing Track in the planning documents is as follows-

"Land used to race, rally, scramble, or test, vehicles, including
go-karts, motor boats, and motorcycles, and includes other competitive
motor sports."

This new law prevents any legally condcted events including rally,
enduro, mototrials, grasstrack, tractor pulls, water ski and even private
recreational vehicle use. In addition the prohibition extends to events
not requiring any formed or constructed race track or infrastructure. It
also includes one off competitions or training/practice days unless the
land is re-zoned.

While Government representatives agree it was not the intention of the
changes they are not willing to fix the problem!

Sorry if this is a Tonka.

There are groups that will continue to try to kill off our sports in all its versions whilst we let them get away with it.

First it's closing public tracks where social 4WDing happens, then they target our sport which occurs on private land. How can they justify that?

Unfortunately they will keep getting away with it whilst the greater community doesn't stand up and fight them for it.

10 years time anything remotely close to an outdoor activity will have to be experienced on your Playstation/Nintendo/PC via virtual reality.
That way no harm can be done to the outdoors.

Oh yeah, anyone seem Gattaca, Aeon Flux, etc?
Seems like everyone in Government has seen this "glimpse" of the future and liked it!

What I want to know is what sort of penalties could be enforced for driving your 4wd on your own land?

Or is this just all due to liability?
eg. Do what you want to, but there's no chance of insurance policies?

So this reads as if this law has already been passed.
Recent changes to Victorian planning controls NOW PROHIBIT

Does this mean that Vicwinch, Ateco etc etc are now cancelled? Or are they still to run?

As far as I know its fair dinkum, I was emailed it as part of the Victorian Rallying Egroup as it effects rallying also. Figured 4x4 people need to get on board too.

Bloody wrong!!

Looks like its more of a planning issue that has some devistating side effects for us, rather than an outright attack on motorsport.

hang on everyone it says "Recent changes to Victorian planning controls now prohibit a "Motor Racing Track" statewide in new rural zones."

So what is a new rural zone? I'm guessing areas that are already demed to be rural are ok, ie Ateco property etc. What it does mean thhat certain areas that were either unclassified, maybe state owned and now sold to the public, or other that have been newly defoned as rural aren't allowed to have motorsport on them.

We need to actually find out what it means rather than automatically go off the deep end. Alot of the comments on the petition aren't going to do anyone any good. We need to ensure that we know what we are petioning about
