VIC - Petition to stop Banning of motorsport on Private Land
Moderator: evanstaniland
I'm with Grimbo & ann on this one atm; all sounds a bit 'fishy' to me. It would be great if Cheezy can elaborate a little more. Maybe a bit symplistic, but I read it as;
FARMING ZONE:
Basically no recreational activity, like 4wd events, allowed.
RURAL LIVING ZONE.
allows tourism/ recreational activies, but no take away stalls etc, meaning difficulty/hurdles in gaining permit to run an event.
RURAL ACTIVITY ZONES. (THE KEY ONE)
"A landowner may apply for a permit for a range of accomodation, tourism, RECREATION & commercial uses in the zone".
Meaning that if the properties where Oz Rock, Ateco etc are conducted & are zoned in the above category, no problem.
The way I read it, no recreational activity in Rural FARMING zone & basically little, (ie no 4wd events) activity permitted in Rural CONSERVATION zone.
I maybe stupid, but I didnt read anything, specifically related to motorsport etc. .
The thing is, I think we are all a little unsure here at what the ramifications really are , & until we get the full story, I would be a little wary about signing any petition.
Cheers

having a look at http://www.petitionthem.com/default.asp we are #1 under todays most popular.
People need to all go see or write to their local member about his..
It would be good if someone who can word that sort of shit could write up a template for everyone to sign, adn fax to their local member, and bracks' office stating that we are not happy, and voting is coming up real soon

I have sent an email asking for a definition of motor racing track in writing. The VPP definitely states that a Motor racing track is prohibited from Farming Zoned land. However it is not in the Prohibited list on rural activity zoned land.
I guess the big question is what is the zoning of the land we are using for these events. The zoning of land is a council issue, so if the land has not yet been rezoned under the "new" planning system then there is a possibility of getting it zoned rural activity.
Being invovlved in Off Road Racing myself i know that this issue has the potential to grind to a halt alot of the races we conduct in victoria. CAMS are onto it aswell and fitting for us.
I'll sit back and await my reply...
Oh and i did give them my name but no details of affiliation with any motor sports..
As far as an indecent proposal goes, I'd accept nothing less than $100,000 to tolerate buggery. Any less and it's just not worth the psychological trauma.
According to this Bindaree, the Ateco property, is in a Farming Zone.
According to the new rules, no motorsport on Farming Zone's.

Before we jump the gun, i'd like to wait to get a response from DSE defining a "motor racing track". They don't mention "motorsport".Davidh wrote:http://www.dse.vic.gov.au/planningschemes/

There is plenty of speculation flying around with little facts attatched

Agree with Ruffy totally. No one here is sure of the facts & the possible impact, & until we do, lets not get 'over dramatic' . Sometimes, we are similar to the ant 4wd group; "shooting off at the mouth, without knowing all the facts" . Not meaning any offence here, but IMO to sign any petition without knowing all the facts & relying on 'hearsay' is not smart. It is now time for 4wdVic to stand up here & give us all a full understanding of how it will affect us & those who use private land for comps etc. To say the likes of Winton & Philip Island Raceways are now under threat due to these new zoning regulations is absolute lunacy.Ruffy wrote:Before we jump the gun, i'd like to wait to get a response from DSE defining a "motor racing track". Does anyone have a link to this supposed ammendment.. I have spoken with the planning people here at work and they have heard nothing abou it, after a search on the DSE website I am still unable to find anything ...
Would it be possible to get this thread moved and made a sticky in gen 4x4 tech ?? 700 responses is pretty weak considering what is potentially at stake ..

" If governments are involved in the covering up the knowledge of aliens, Then they are doing a much better job of it than they do of everything else "
Have been on the phone to DSE this morning.
Ok, Under clause 63, existing use of land, if the event has been ran with a permit and under the correct provisions from a time prior to the "new" zoning provisions (2003) until now then you should be fine to continue to conduct the same event under that permit.
If the activity has ceased for a period of two years or more then you will have to reapply and show documentation of the previous existance of the event.
If the event has been ran for 15 years or more then you are hunky dory, no action required at all what so ever.
Want to know more feel free to pm me but please only if you are involved in the organisation of an event in some way. I don't mean to be rude but i don't want to have to answer a 100 pm's just cos people want to be in the argument.
As far as i'm concerned there is no argument, the petition can be shoved north! and all is good for me. no big issue now we know what it's about.
Cheers. Dan
