Hilux 2JZ-GE?

Hilux 2JZ-GE?
Hey fellas!
Ive got an RN105 Dual Cab Hilux with the "powerhouse" 22R.
Im interested in swaping the engine for something a bit more powerful.
After reading differing oppinions on the commodore conversion it seems like alot of work for a marginal outcome! Ive seen some luxes with supra motors and am interested in what this conversion entailes! The luxy is a daily driven work car towing my tool trailer all around town, so the motor should be reliable and produce more torque then the 22R (I know you will all say go diesel but I preffer petrol). How hard is it to fit the 2JZ-GE to a hilux? What sort of horse power and torque dose this motor produce?
If anyone has any information or other possible engine surgestions please send it on. Any replies would be muchly apprecieated!
Cheers

Stick it in low and NAIL IT !!!!!!!!!!
Here is a link to a shop on the gold coast that has just done a 1G-GTE Swap into a 2wd lux and they should be able to give you some pointers.

If you can afford it go for the 2JZ-GTE, it puts a stonking 427 Nm at 3800 RPM, and 206KW at 5600 RPM. Or go for a 1JZGTE, like me which im fitting into a Bundera. It has 363 Nm at 4800 RPM and 206 KW at 6200 RPM. If the peak torque sounds a little high, its already putting out 300 Nm at a tad over 2000 RPM which is heaps better than a 4cyl Toyota diesel.
The 2JZGE has 284 Nm at 4800 RPM, 164KW at 5800 RPM. I would much prefer to use a 1GGTE over a 2JZGE, a little more boost and the 1GGTE power will rise, so will the torque.
AFAIK a 1GGTE, or a 1JZGTE will be cheaper than a 2JZGE anyhow.

R U Mad !!!!
The 1G-GTE is a screamer, you'll need dual transfers and 5.29's to get control of the thing - and thats just to get away at the lights Of course if you are a mud slinger then ............
I've driven a lux with the 1G, 31's and 4.56 diffs and its a handfull off-road, especially in rocks, a real clutch cooker !!. The owners lookin for a new donk already !!
If your going to bother with a Toy 6 then start with the 5M, then 7M and onto the 2JZ depending on your budget.
( eg: local add: Celica 1985 motor & trans etc 2.8 dohc, can be heard running $150 ono ) - The deal was $150 for the motor + trans or $100 for the whole car... I took the car
Ask anyone with the 4AGE in a Zuk how hard they are to drive off-road, lotsa power but...

No Turbo
1GGTE sounds to peaky for what i need! I dont want a turbo, far to much hassle!! Im after something thats reliable!! Something that can tow a trailer all week long and take me up the beach on the weekends.
Im not after a mud racer or a rock crawler, just something that I dont have to change down 2 gears every time there is a small incline!!!!! What about the 7M-GE? anyone know the torque and power figures?
What sort of fule consumpton dose SupraSurf get with the 5M-GE?
Also would the standard gearing be ok for this application or do the diff centers need to be changed (I only run 31s)? Dose the RV6 have an in tank high preasure fule pump? If so can I fit a long range version of this tank and not have to worry about a surge tank?
Cheers

GDAY
The Lexus 1uzfe 4.0 v8 produces 190kw, and is 2500 front cut jap Crown from IHIBAN in Moorebank, or 1200 for the motor alone if you want to go 5 speed. (The std computer wont run the motor without an auto as they are both in thesame box.) Dellow make abellhousing and flywheel for 1200 to bolt the supra to it, and bobs your uncle...
2uzfe has more torque (440nm) but less power than 1uzfe and is actually a stroked 1uzfe.

SASS: Turbos are no hassle at all, and are reliable!!!! Im in the same situation as you, I have a 26ft boat I need to tow, sometimes 1300 km up North, which I also launch at a beach. If the 1GGTE sounds too peaky, go for the 1JZGTE like me.
I looked into the 1UZFE aswell, but found the 1JZ to be a far surperior motor, have a look at this dyno graph, with a little boost, aftermarket computer, intercooler and exhaust, it is possible to achieve 290 kW with a 1JZ. To get a 1UZ to those figures will cost alot of money.
An early Crown 1UZ computer will work with a manual, as the early crown had to seperate computers for controlling the engine and transmission.

MMmmmm for on road, i agree that the straight 6 would be superior, but what about the offroad side of things? Water crossings and soft sand. Even the std petrols get hot in low range in sand for 10 minutes, not so sure how the turbocharged motor would fare!
The 1uzfe has crank ignition with seperate ignitors each plug (no leads) so it should run under water.
Was considering this setup for my fj80.

We are currently fitting a 1uzfe to bj's cruiser and it only has 2 coils. One per side. It also still has ignition leads.

You can water proof the toy 6's, My 5M has been for plenty of swims and suvived

Ease of fitting
OK!!!!!!!
So far the options are (5,6,7M-GE), (1,2JZ-GE) and 1UZFE
What is the easiest and cheapest to fit?
I want to keep things very simple and easy!!!!
V8 sounds like a lot of stuffing around with bellhousings and computers!!!!
Do the M series motors bolt to the factory hilux engine mounts?

The M series is a breeze to fit, bolts up to any W or G series box, the computer is simple and you can even get it to fit onto the engine mounts if you pulled out a diesel
