BLOW-BY Q ?
Ok from the beginning, the 'blow-by/breather pipe' on an LN106 lux that goes from the rocker cover to the 'intake manifold'....I hope you all have a picture in your mind.........now that I've installed a turbo,(according to DTS's constructions) the pipe now goes from the rocker cover to the 'air intake' piping that goes TO THE TURBO.My question is......can I run the 'blow-by/breather pipe' back to the original spot to the 'intake manifold,to save any oily blow-by being sucked through the turbo, thus causing premature seal & bearing wear.

Air before the turbo is unpressurised and air after the turbo is pressurised so if you run it in the original position you'll push air into the breather tube and loose boost in your engine. just plug the tube with an inline fuel filter and vent into atmosphere. just make sure you put the end of the tube where water can't get in

if u did that i recon your rear main seal and tappet cover gasket would last less than a few weeks. as you would pressurise the tappet cover and crank.and also waste valuable boost by filling your motor with air

if you plum it back to the intake soon as you run it it will push oil past the turbo seal causing a smokescreen trust me it works well
on the same note if you kink some1s breather pipe you will get the same results not that i would do such a thing

not to mention putting oil on the road is a nasty thing to do. the roads are slippery enough without people diliberatly oiling the road.+dj_hansen+ wrote:I think youll find this is kinda of on the illegal sidevSAHARAx wrote:ive got mine running to the atmosphereOld Mechanic mate told me to do so.
also you get dust sucked back into the rocker cover :(
best bet is to use a catch can. at the very least use a breather filter (excess oil drains back down the breather pipe, it needs to be mounted higher than the motor) and you won't get dust getting into the motor or clogging the breather.
I had a bling catch can, but it must have been restricted inside as it didn't let any air flow through it. But I have had the breather running is you said to the feed side of the turbo for a couple of years now, with the usual amount of LN106 blow by without any problem... touch wood..
But AFAIK the 3L engines typically have a lot of blow by and venting it to the atmo somewhere will usually leave oil drops everywhere you go, whether that's a problem is up to you.
I'd like to make my own catch can, like a milo size tin, braze in some fittings with a steel wool medium in it but just haven't had the time to look at it.

I did notice when I held the hose with the end free to atmosphere & gave a pull on the throttle cable, winding up the turbo then backing off,it did release alot of pressure.I had thought of running an 'oil catch can' but just wanted to hear a bit of tech background before I did.................THANKYOU EVERYONE-Scott- wrote:If you leave it where it is, when you're on boost there's nowhere to vent the excess pressure.Follow the instructions.
