how should i run in a engine?
how should i run in a engine?
got my engine rebuilt the block got machined cause it was warped and the head was machined aswell. so it has lots more compression. the mechanic said dont take on the beach for 1000km and take it slow. is this right?
Do a search, been talked about before.
But i heard a few times, drive it like now like u want to later.
U may have have to run on premium as well to stop pinging, depends on your compression.

hey nothing wrong with wanting a second opinion, you don't even have to believe the second opinion but it can be comforting to look at different views.
Me personally i would probably baby it for the first few hundred let all the bit's and pieces set into place... don't strain it, let the oil lube it's way to every crook and cranny.
Then as Nicbeer said, rev the hell out of it, push it to it's limits on flat ground then tackle something harder. After all it is going to break do it early when you can go back to the mechanic and say ' hey i expected you to fix it.'
Sounds brutal but really if it can't hold 6500rpm on the highway or climb a sand dune then it's not performing to the way it was originally design

Drive it the same way you drove it before you got it rebuilt.
Now yor talkin Grimbo lets put some serious stress on the rings bearings and the like....grimbo wrote:no, why would you trust the mechanic who rebuilt your engine when you can trust an internet forum where anyone can throw in their .02c worth. when i ran my engine for like 10mins at 2000revs like the mechanic said the temperture went up half way inbetween the middle and the red. this wasn;t normal before but i broke the heat sensor putting it in so i got the heat sensor off the 95 engine and put it on the 89 engine that i got rebuilt. also there was no wind. what was with that... i thought it would sit there for ages idling at 2000 revs.
that would be sarcasm as indicated by the rolling eye emoticonbushpig59 wrote:Now yor talkin Grimbo lets put some serious stress on the rings bearings and the like....grimbo wrote:no, why would you trust the mechanic who rebuilt your engine when you can trust an internet forum where anyone can throw in their .02c worth.
