hey all, just wondering if you guys with lpg could tell me the measurements of your tanks, and the size in L's,

does anybody run full gas? how does it go?

Very general questions can only give general answers.

All shapes and sizes generally can be made or are available, short, fat, long skinny, and ones shaped like a toroid (doughnut, "spare tyre replacement").......... Tanks (whatever size) can only be filled to 80% of their physical capacity if you are measuring yours up.

As for how they go, well, yes they do. They use more LPG than petrol, they tend to run hotter, and the conversion will only suit some vehicles (those with "unleaded" heads, or heads with hardened valve seats). There are various sorts of gas systems available from mixers, to gas injection (similar principle to carbies and fuel injection, respecitvely).

was asking about sizes so i can see what tanks and where i can mount them,im going to be buying an off the shelf tanks no custom stuff

i no that you use more lpg than petrol but have been told that running straight gas is better, for power and economy

That's correct, but in order to do that you have to advance the ignition several degrees more than with petrol. You will still need to look at the valve seats, depending on the age of the engine. LPG fitters will be able to tell you more.

also advise changing to slightly colder plugs as well

you can run a bottle of flashlube to a vaccum line and this will keep the valve seats lubed and not allow them to dry out (as much) with lpg

Use Platinum sparkplugs and spiral core leads too.

you have to measure up your free space first, and then get a tank/tanks to suit.

If you are serious about running straight gas properly, then you have to get rid of the carby, get a good baseplate/throttleplate, Mount your mixer directly to this. ( get rid of all the emission crap in yoru rnginebay aswell.)

then get your distributor regraphed and adjust your timing to suit.
if you dont have electronic ignition, now is the time to invest in it.

get a big arse coil and come excellent plug leads

get a colder range of quality plugs.

get some extractors fitted.

shave your head 20-30 thou. ( increase compression)

once you do this, you will find that it will probably perform better than it did on petrol, and you will have excellent economy to boot..:)

i have 2 "normal" shape tanks in place of the fuel tank, under the back, very very well tucked up and carries about 120 litres (probably a bit more, havnt run it dry and filled it, biggest fill to date was 119.85 litres. still running in duel fuel mode minus the tank, my next step is gas researth throttle body elec ignition and all the rest of it. as in the above post.

i have a switch to switch between the two tanks when running and the filler fills one then auto switches to the second tank, with 2 gauges.

k thanks guys,
the only thing im worryed bout is running out of gas when im offroad, so was trying to see if i can get about 150L of gas its going under a middy so there aint all that much room, i was thinking of getting a 100L tank to replace the petrol tank and a donut style tank to mount in front of diff.

big cam so your running dual fuel but dont have a petrol tank? what sort of k's are you getting out of your tanks at the moment?

I have 70 useable litres LPG between the back diff and the bumper. Even before I lifted it, the tank sat just above the suspension line to it wasn't too vunerable.

I also have a 90L petrol tank under the passenger side of the vehicle so I would have thought you could fit 2 longer thinner tanks there, then 70L out the back if you were really keen.

My 3F was on its way out but ran better on gas than peddy. I think straight gas with mods above could turn out well. As with all jobs, work out the big picture and save up to get it all right the first time. There is no point paying once to modify ur exhaust to fit the tanks in, then again when you decide to fit extractors etc.

big red, any more details?
ive been thinking about having 2 donut tanks inside rather than a rear seat with another tank between rear diff and bumper and having a false floor with drawers, but would really like to have it all underneath, just do want it to get hung up on anything.

i have 2 apa tanks an A90 and a B95 (smaller) the larger A90 (i think 90 litre) sits just behind the rear seat hump in the floor and the B95 sits right behind it, with the 2" body lift they are very well tucked, the car was duel fuel with a tank in the boot but got rid of the fuel tank and put the twins in to sleep in the back of the car.

i was going to put an aux tank down the side but now have a gas research system just goning to leave it straight gas..

as far as it goes, totaly shit house, its a 3F!!!!!:lol: :lol: , but offroad its all good! i dont think the gas has anything to do with it, just a big fat heavy pistoned pushrod pile of shit toyota call a motor.

get 400-500 k's per fil of approx 110 litres not good but better than fuel! :shock:
