RUF shock location??

Post by CanberraMav »

Ok
Ive done the RUF conversion on the Sierra and have moved the axle forward approx 1 to 2 inches. It seems that the shocks will bind now on flex against the bumpstop mount that comes off the chassis.

Do i have to cut the bumpstop mounts off the chassis and move them forward or can i angle the shocks somehow?? The top shockmounts have been cut off to fit longer shocks and are off at the moment so im looking for the best solution before welding new ones on.

Another option im guessing is to put longer pins on the spring pad where the bottom of the shock bolts on but im guessing they would be fairly weak.

What have others done??

That wasnt quit the answer i was looking for.
Ive got fairly decent shocks going in so i dont want them damaged.

Depends on the rubbing. you can space the shock out about 5mm i think and maybe trim the mount on the edge.

You may need bumpstop extensions as well. bit of rhs.

Are you making your own mounts or rewelding the orig ones on higher?

G day Nic

Ive had the original upper mounts cut off with an oxy and ill be putting them back on but higher up. The shocks i have been given are off a Cruizer and the bushes in the bottom of the shock are wider than the zook ones which means that spacing them out at the bottom is not going to happen.

I have already fitted 1 inch bumpstop extensions also. I was thinking of trimming the bumpstop mounts down but its not going to be enough.

At the moment im thinking of making my own spring plates that are longer and welding a high tensile bolt with the head cut off to them so the shock mount is longer (if that makes any sense).
