camshafts

camshafts
well, I was told by vitesse that i need a new cam, but was quoted near 700 including lifters, parts only. But i've seen other camshafts for around 150 bux, is it just range rover ones that are so expensive. What i'm really getting at is wether it is worth rebuilding the engine (doesn't feel like it has got anywhere near 260bhp as it should if it were new), or just keep driving it, it does burn a little oil, but leaks from somewhere as there is always oil behind the plenum chamber, wich then drips down and sprays the whole car.
I dont think any rover V8 has ever had 260bhp from the factory, what is it and how many k,s ? For parts only try Triumph rover spares in SA on their website it would be not much over $300 for the parts. If its done over 180-200k a new cam/lifters/ chain set will make a big difference. Most say that a 3.9 efi spec cam is good for mild power increase without raising the torque higher in the rev range.
Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.
I just put a stage 2 waggot cam in my 3.5 and it cost $250 for the cam (new billet) and $98 for new lifters.
good power gain. stage 1 might be better if you daily drive, as the power curve is better down low. i have the stage two and it comes alive at about 4500......
dunno what the f*ck is up with all these other blokes and there bulls*it prices.....
Joe.
