Whats the deal with Plasma rope?
Whats the deal with plasma rope? does it get hot it self? or is it effecting the winch? I want to drop the access weight off my front end, but will it effect my budget repco 9500lbs low mount winch??? Hey don't laugh, that dam thing has pulled more than its weight a few times now.
God made reverse for tailgaters!!

My brother has it on his XD9000 and we have used it a few times , once to haul the big heavy GU up a pretty serious bit of hill that i didnt get up with no lockers.
Another time we winched his surf up the QLD gate track because it was too wet and slippery after rain.(drove it the week before but no chance when wet)

You can get a sheath type material that covers the first five meters usually. They do this generally so you know how much you need to keep on the drum ( you need to keep a few turns on the drum). Hope that makes sense?jugger wrote:i think u can also buy a sleave for the first few feet that is in more contact with the drum i think its threw the mob that bourgt out the second airs that staun now do.
i wouldn't think so, plasma type rope is what is used in shipping, so i'm lead to believe.jimbo jones wrote:can the plasma rope rot if left wet on the winch?

with plasma you have to keep it clean (free for dirt and small fine rocks)and clean it out every time you use it or the girt builds up inside the rope and cuts it from the inside out. And when winching try to avoid pulling the rope (under load) over rocks because the plasma rope doesn't like rocks which cuts the rope. For the maintance of plasma it isn't really worth it just to save a couple of kilo's. well that's my opinion because I have used both, It is worth it in comps. wire and plasma both have the pro's and con's

but u gotta do some fairly serious winching to snap it . i dare say the wire rope wasnt in the best condition. but just depends what he wants if i could afford it i would be useing plasma or dynamica but $100 dollars for wire with a hook and $280 - $350 dollars for synthetic plus a alloy hook and thinbles and alike im going the wire cause i only use my wich when theres no other way.
ya got2 b tuff if u gunna b dumb!!
rope
