FJ 40 SWB SOFT TOP!!!!
I know that there is no doubt this has been asked before (i've been told it already has) but how much should i pay for a soft top for my 40 and where can i get one from??
The 78 FJ40 that i'm restoring is my first set of wheels, and so far the resto has gone from the ground up with everthing either sandblasted or replaced with fibreglass, and i'm i'm to painting so i can begin the big job of re-assembly. i'm not too keen on painting my hard-top as i don't realy want to use it, so i figure i can save $$$ there and put them $$$ towards my soft-top.
these are my options so far;
-import a bestop supertop from the states (w/ 2 piece soft doors) for about AU$1150 + shipping (approx AU$400)
-buy a very similarly shaped top from South Australia for $1250 incl. postage BUT with no soft doors
or
- have my friendly local auto interior chap custon make one up for me at a cost of between $1000 and $1500. Again this has no soft doors but on the up-side can be made in a fast-back design (angled-down rear) which is what i'm really after.
I have a set of twin 3"-hoop rollbars from eureka offroad and need something with a bit of height to account for the massive size of my bars.
PCMAN had one for sale just last week on e-bay which was pretty much dead on the money for what i wanted but unfortunately my bars wouldn't come to an agreement with his top and there was just generally no love between the two. I've heard of places that'll whip up custom tops including all the brackets/hoops/snap-buttons or slides etc for mounting for under AU$1000, but i just cant find anywhere (in vic preferrably) that will make one for me.
if anyone can help me out with names of fabricators, good condition second-hand tops, distributors of new tops, ANYTHING, please post a reply in my topic, it'd be very greatly appreciated!!!

Im here for the sausage!
that looks like a sweet roof there matt.
your other option is to beg and plead with a US place to send you one on the sly.
i think it was around $80 for a bikini top to fit a 40.
no doors, no windows. but cheap and looks
and you dont use a 40 in winter do ya??
