They're fabulous off-road! Excellent power to weight, great approach, departure and ramp-over angles, solid drivetrain.
Downhill engine braking is pretty sad, but there are aftermarket gears to help that (I presume they'll fit the import auto...)
GrantW had the hardtop a few years back, and decided 35s sapped too much power - he concluded 33s were better, which should fit with simple suspension lift.
Cheers,
Scott

sounds good is there a big diference in strength over the older 3l drivline wise are the engines reliable and do they have good lsd's

Gearbox, trans and rear diff are all significantly larger than the 3l version - generally considered as approaching Nissan standard for strength. Front diff and CVs are the same as most 3l models (3l auto had smaller diff) and are generally pretty tough. 34s might start to push the CVs - I'm not sure.known 2 wrote:sounds good is there a big diference in strength over the older 3l drivline wise are the engines reliable and do they have good lsd's
LSDs are excellent, again approaching Nissan standards - lightyears ahead of Toyota. I believe NL's had a Torsen LSD instead of clutch type; I don't know what you'd find in an import.

Most JTops had a factory diff-lock installed. Even BETTER OFFROAD NOW!
The 3.5 is a powerfull little sucker and turns 33's with no problems at all, like Scott said 34's will start to hurt your CV's. Easy to clean with vinyl floors The only real downfall would be security, soft tops are easy to break into.
