are they a divorced tranfer in your model, if so you could just use a vl box and make a shaft betwwen the 2 or if yours isnt divorced maybe you could look at getting one, i havnt had much experiance with mq's so these are only sugestions i dont know if they will work or not.

Sorry guys but the divorced transfer only came out in the L28 wagons.

Why are you taking out the p40 motor?

I just gave my brother a hand to rebuild his mk with the p40. It was not that expensive to rebuild with new oversized pistons rings and bearings, the timing gears are no longer available and very hard to get a water pump.
We had my mate get a new cam, one to give it some more pulling power, he ported the head and shaved over 1 mm of the head to give it more compression, converted the valve seats for led free with a set of extractors. The old Nissan never pulled like now, 5th gear over the Desailly Range going to Cooktown, which is a good hill to test it on, anyone going to Cooktown would know that range. He is running the 4.6 diffs.

Ron,

I personally would much rather have an MQ with a P40 than an L28. Anything spent on that conversion would be better spent on doing things to the P40, imho.

As for the RB30, you would probably be best trying to find an RB30 with five speed and transfer case already attached, and bolt all of that in, then modify the driveshafts to suit. But again, I'd probably rather just keep the P40 if it already has a five-speed. It has more power and more torque than an RB30, and is much better suited to 4WD applications.

In answer to your other question, the gearboxes will not just swap between the L28 and the P40 motors.
