Broken Fuel Gauge

Post by HotAe92 »

Hey All,

as of a few weeks ago, when i backed into a rather large rut, my fuel guage is stuffed.

Basically the guage will sit on F (FULL) and either wont fluctuate at all, or will fluctuate, land on the correct amount of fuel in the tank for a second, and the n continue to go haywire.

Im thinking i may have damaged the float.

Its not an urgent fix (as i can go off the km's on the trip meter) its just a piss off that its not working properly.

If anyone could lend some advice, that would be greatly appreciated.
Oh and the car is an SJ80 Sierra.

Cheers

yeh i have a couple of large dents, which were there previous to the guage not working.

Another possibility is that the float is catching on the dents?

Uklikely. Have you checked the wire going to the sender? it should be on the top of the tank, and most likely difficult to get to unless you drop the tank.
