1300 stroker kit

Post by jacka »

I did a search but couldnt find the right answers, so here it goes. Is there such a kit, if so what are the benefits and how much does it cost. Would it be more beneficial than having to engineer a 1.6.
I already have a vitara carby, head and extractors.

Thankyou in advance.

suziworx mud4b (and thus maybe suziworld) do a kit for a 1500 into 1300, if thats what you mean?
But even though it would look like a 1300 stocker, and thus keep rta happy, you'd still have to be ware of insurance type issues.

The Suzishop block is bored and stroked, a lot of debate on how they do it but if you used 78mm pistons and a 77mm g13a crank you still only reach 1472cc. People who actually have bored their block that far have said they spent alot of money to be able to do that with resleeving etc.

Probably a safer option would be to go 76mm with the 77mm crank
giving you 1397cc or 99cc over a g13ba.

On it's own not much but with a cam and extractors..

Is the head a vitra head?

with the insurance thing i would be surprised if a insurance company would think to tear down the engine, and if they did you'd have a good case in court on grounds that you could be not expected to know the condition of internal component's or even being liable to check the bore size when doing something like a head gasket.

yeah i have a vitara head and extractors. What sort of power gains would be expected? I dont know the type of cam.

i know how they do the G13 stroker but i won't give it away...
basicily the block is machined right out to accept new piston sleeve's that can be bored out to 78 mm, non suzuki pistons are used with a low deck height, a certain type of suzuki rods are modified and used and a specific G series crank is offset ground.
I've got a frend that has this in a swift GTi with the twincam head, personally this modification makes alright power but i'ed prefer to go a G16 16v engine conversion, the G15 and the G16 engines have far more potential for torque and HP

The 'Swifty boys' say the DOHC head can't flow much passed 1298cc so it would be very restictive on power gains (relativey anyway )

a vitara head with bigger valves and the extractors would be better than a stock head. As for power you are probably going to reach a stock carb 1.6 after all the work. Still a fair power gain and no gearbox modding, engine mounts or bonnet lift required.

true about the flow but the twin cams can be flowed out very successfully
also the twin cam head is stronger and less prone cracking compared to the 16v sohc head

So if I arrange to do what Santos reccommends myself, here in Melb, who should do it and how much would it cost?

If you don't have a g13a then find a g13a crank

Ring you mechanic ask who does boring.

Ring that person, say you want to bore a block from 74 to 76mm .
You will probably be told 2mm is extreme but say it's for a race blueprint and you need a rough price assuming you can (the block should be inspected before boring for cracks and integrity)

Find out how much a rebuild kit less pistons is (and if you don't need water pump or other items it will be cheaper but may be worth doing anyway) Cheapest i found in my 2min search is Suzisport $550 master rebuild kit

Find a suitable piston that is 76mm, a suzuki piston pin diameter is 17mm.
Swifty boys talk about an oversized 75mm vitara piston or a oversized D series honda piston. From what i can make out these are 19mm pins so it may be that the G13b DOHC has a bigger pin, in which case i'd jump on a pair of forged rods from a gti. The only other thing i have stumble d on his a daihatsu piston which is 76mm and 19mm pin out of a 993cc daihatsu engine .(3cyl making displacement 73mm very close to a suzuki, you might even be able to use the rods ) . it is vague as it is an china aftermarket website but if you could get that in 8v it would be an option.

Then you got the cost of assembling it if you are not doing it, i'd personally rather do my own and put it down to a learning process. Things to consider is you may need to polish the rods and pistons down to reduce weight to that of the stock g13a rod and piston otherwise it will be out of balance with the crank

Heaps a groundwork to do, but i think the final cost is a result of the homework, on hindsight it is probably easier to shell out for a 1.6l swap kit and a 1.6l carb. Yet think of it this way, if you do the engine properly and don't rush it you know it's history and can expect a good life out of it if maintained with a regular schedule of tuning, servicing and good fuel.
Buy Borrow these two books Engine Blueprinting/ Performance with Economy

Disclamer: I have never rebuilt a g13, these are just a collection of data sourced and ideas based on ' sound' principles. I subscribe to a lot of suzuki forums and have a ton of manuals that i day dream over regulary with the intent of eventually doing some of it when my engine dies.

Got carried away forgot to my first point

Find out all of the above add cost of fluids, a clutch, cost of hiring equipment like an engine hoist and that's how much it would probably set you back.

Thankyou, I will look into it further and report back. Thanks for your input. Can you advise me what the torque and Kw figures are for standard 1300 and 1600 carby motor. And theoretically, what output mine would have a vit carby, head extractors and exhaust. Cause if were only talking say 10kw may be not be worth it.

it probably would only be a small amount of kw gained but i think uve got to think of it as a percentage gain. As suzukis dont have a very large output to start with (G13A=47kw) a 10kw gain is still more than 20% over stock.

G16a 55kw
G13ba 47kw

So yeah it co mes down to having an engine you know has been built properly.

Still if you did things like run higher compression (shaved head or pistons) custom cam and treat the internals to some prepping so they can rev out to a higher redline then 6500rpm (maybe 7500rpm) you could probably squeeze pass a 10kw gain (remember we are comparing a potential 1400cc against a stock 1600cc, the g13bb does 59kw with 1298cc, SOHC 16v, MPI and higher compression so i don't think this is unrealistic)

From there you'd have to get serious, with EFI (custom multi-point not a Jap TBI), Port and polishing of heads, and if after all that you haven't cracked 60kw Booooooost!

How much you are doing now with current set up? 50-51kws? (probably less as your motor is n't 0km)
