tapping Steering boxes for hyrdo assist

Post by Screwy »

I have had a mate who works in hydraulics pull the power steer box out of an MQ apart and he said, becuase its a rack and Pinion style Box, that it cant be tapped out for hyrdo assist.

if this is the case.... can it be done with GQ power steering boxes? or what other steering boxes can you do this 2 that are not rack and pinion?

cheers

Screwy

Screwy Try yuri at www.yuri4x4.com as he is the guru on all stuff hydro.
But as i know 60s boxes and rangie ones are easy to do. The rangie one would be the easiest and it bolts on the inside of the rail.

with hydro assist can it ever be possible for the ram to be fighting with the steering box, or does the ram just take over all the "load" of the steering box?

Has anyone done this to a Vitara box before?

EDIT: Just been doing some sniffing around on the web, seems like it has been done before. Couldn't find any write up, but did find a couple of pics.
