torsion bars??

torsion bars??
how do i know how far i can wind up my torsion bars on my 1991 rocky? have wound them up some but want more.can i wind them up till i get to the end of the thread?? i am not sure how much i have wound them up so any help would be gr8.

Check how far you are from the bumpstops cause if you wind them up you loose down travel, and can end up with no down travel, and a shithouse ride that will end up breaking stuff. As well you will wear your CV's heaps quicker as they will be opperating at much larger angles more often.

if you wind up your torsion bars, you wont need your stablizer bar anymore so you can ditch it. it'll help improve the ride even after stiffening it up.

as for the swybar if i take it off i will have to get it certifided and over here that starts costing abit.in nz we have starnge laws that let us raise the torsion bars get the springs rebent and it ok for the road but if i start removing things or even get a hight kit i need to get it certified

hey i from dunedin as well i got 90 rocky sx the rear leafs were completely shagged almost bending past the overload spring (unbendable bottom leaf) so i got the reset and while that was being done i got the torsion bars wound up got 60mm of lift out of it just remeber if you play with the torsion bars get a wheel alinment done can put it out by quite a bit hope that helps. oh i took it to the shock shop on hillside Rd to get it done $450 to do everything.

Also, the CV angle will then pretty much be the limiting factor.

Have to agree that winding the bars up has limits in that there is little down travel left ( and there wasn't much to start with ). IMO bump travel is less important than droop and winding up the bars limits droop travel badly.
Once again IMO spacing the body up is the answer - gets the tyres under the guards but still leaves you with travel. I have aftermarket rear springs and they are fine - but its clearance under the front guards that's and issue. So the body blocks are larger at the front and progressively decrease to nothing at the rear....

yeh probly ae but it keeps me happy out drove a guy in a SWB defender the last time i went out. i can also get through ruts made by bigger 4x4's with out getting hung up all the time like i used to do. gona be so happy when i get me truck back from the mechanics tomorrow gona go find some mud lol

when i had the old roza i wound the front up until it was 15mm off the bumpstops. and then i trimmed the stop abit. fitted 31 muds that didnt rub even on full lock with full travel. i did hammer the inner guards a bit with a sledgie. used to flex nicely. still had a bit of down travel

ok fine about winding up the torsion bars but what about the rear part of the FEROZA is it getting higher when we winding the torsion bars or we have to change the back rings to bigger?
