putting a windsorin is more hassell than its worth. so im gunna stick with v6 t700 crawlers and 4.9 or 5.1 diffs. or would these ratios be to low for the v6 should i just stick with the 4.88 i have now ?

i did a vp motor into a '83 xtra cab for a mate, we brought a wagon out of the trader and used everything we could off it. it was v6 with t700, used a marks adapter for the transfer case. it had 31" a/t's. and rev'ed to high for my liking with 4.8's @ 100kph. ended up putting 4.3's in it which was better for highway driving, didn't get a chance to do much 4wdin in it. but it was no better on fuel than the 3y that came out of it.

another mate put a vn motor into his lux and used the v6 surf 5speed after breaking the stock one, much better option i reckon. seemed to go heaps better.
cheers Pete.

Just fitted v6 with t700 & dual cases in my project 83 lux. Am running 4.88 diffs & 33" tyres but will go 35" when funds permit.
Will let you know how it goes, hopefully get rego in the next couple of weeks.
If it revs to high with 31" tyres just bump up your tyre size :D

Just get the VR or later 3.8 Commy motor and fit LPG. You will never have any probs for 10 years. Within "10 years" your car will have 2 owners after you.

Thats all!

If you have a v6 rodeo engine all ready you can bolt a th700 trans strait to it it has the same bolt patern and the same convertor spacing,i have tried it and it fits.(just to give you some more idear's)

Yes fitted everything myself, made up all my own engine mountings using commodore rubber mounts [ bigger is better isn't it? ]
Had adapters made for auto and had T700 output shaft shortened to suit.
Fitted shaft & seal kit to auto. Designed and had dual case, high clearace crossmember built.
Wired it all up. Just waiting for seats to be trimmed & few other things.
Now in the final stages :D
This has taken me 12 months including full respray.
Thanks goes to madmont for the idea on adapters :)

3.2 or 3.5?

I gather you mean the block and bellhousing are the same bolt pattern but did the T700 ring gear have the same bolt pattern as the Rodeo crank?
If so, that means the commy 3.8 will bolt up to a Rodeo V6 gearbox too.
Dont know about clutch spacings though.

im most defantly gunna run one of those davis high volume elcectric water pumps so cooling shouldnt be a problem. im not gunna just do this im gunna take atleast 6 mths to plan it and ask as many questions as i can . it mite annoy some ppl but i rather ask and plan now than have to do it with the motor half way in .
Those davis water pumps flow stuff all, I've got one with the controller on a 2F and I had to upgrade the radiator to a thicker triple pass with the biggest thermo fan I could find. Just to give you an idea the davis high volume pump flows around 100L/m a standard chev diesel water pump is rated to flow 90G/m or 340l/m

Yeh mate, it's no problem on my 2F either but your comment that cooling should'nt be a problem, I got the indication that you thought the Davis water pump would be better than the standard. I'm sure they free up some power and the electric thermo fan made a world of differance to the 2F seemed to save loads of power and must of about halfed the noise but I very much doubt that they come close to a engine driven water pump and fan for cooling power.

Aluminium is better than copper for cooling but aluminium doesnt tend to last as long.

The 3.2 V6 Rodeo is all alloy, pretty sure the 3.5 V6 Rodeo's and Jackeroos are all alloy too. (Isuzu engines)

The new petrol Rodeo's now have the Holden built all alloytec 3.6 V6 (same as the recent Commodores) but with the maximum torque at 3000 rpm for the Rodeo designated engines which is more suitable for off road and towing.

cheers
Sudso, you got me thinking about that one & I decided to check my Holden Workshop manuals & both the 3.2 & 3.5 are alloy bocks. I hope you accept my humble apologies  . I must have been having a brain fart at the time.
Don't ask me, ask them. I'm just runnin for my life myself.
