front drive independant of the rear is called " front dig ".
any buggy with a rear mounted engine would have there rear shaft output at the front diff.... therefore, if you put the transfer in 2wd you are in front rather than rear. 4wd works as normal.
on the front engine buggys.... there are a few different ways....
rear disconnect is where a special mech is attached to the back of your transfercase that has a slide and spline on it that bolts onto your rear shaft and transfercase ( require a shorter rear shaft the length of the disconnect ). when you activate it, it slides the spline off the rear shaft, so the output only spins and the shaft does not.
there are a handful... and when i say a handful, i mean 4 or 5 tranfercases from various models that you can pull apart and modify the internal linkages on so they engage front wheel drive independant of rear and 4wd.....
thats what your after in a nutshell for a patrol is the rear disconnect option.
screwy

As it's effectively a rigid extension of the transfer case, that type of rear disconnect shouldn't throw shaft balance out at all. It would effectively shorten your rear driveshaft though, leading to bigger angles, but since you presumably have a LWB I don't think that would be much of an issue.troy gill wrote:yes that was what i was meaning thanks is yuri the only ones doing it and does anyone have one fitted that they drive on road or will this throw the shaft balance out as i still want onroad ability
