I am looking at converting my 1990 hilux LN106 2.8D into a chev V6 I know of an earlier model hilux with a v6 chev in it that is cheap with a 4speed. Will that setup fit in mine (same engine mounts and the bellhousing bolt up to the 5speed?) How do the gearbox and diff handle the big increase in power? will I have to look at getting a stonger box or doing anything to the diff?
Cheers
Matthew

hey dude i have a v6 chev in my 84 hilux 5 speed. i have gone through one gearbox so far but that was due to a failed bearing in the input shaft which let the input shaft misallign and ripped all the teeth off it. the new box is handling the power well no noises or anythgin yet...jsut remember dont go dropping the clutch everywhere or you'll kill it
84lux-project. A-frame, 350 chev, turbo 350 auto, duals, rears up front, crossover, twin locked and a 118" wheelbase
Re: Hilux Conversion
The 4 and 5 speed gearboxes are different and require different bellhousings, you might be able to use the engine mounts10seclux wrote:I am looking at converting my 1990 hilux LN106 2.8D into a chev V6 I know of an earlier model hilux with a v6 chev in it that is cheap with a 4speed. Check with your local transport department as the engine has to be of the same year or newer than the vehicle
