Fuel Filter Hassles
Fuel Filter Hassles
Been having some real problems trying to bleed the fuel system after replacing the cav filter in the mav. I have cracked the bleed screw on the fuel pump and have been pumping the lift pump like mad but it just doesn't stop bubbling. I decided to tighten the screw on the pump and move onto the bleed screw on top of the fuel filter housing and couldn't get any fuel at all to come out at the top or into the sight glass at all. HELP!!!

Had same sort of problem with my cav type filter on my 4.2 GQ Also when driving and giving it a bit of curry it would suck a gulp of air. After replacing everything i could think of and rebuilding the pump i finally put the factory filter and prima head back on for curiosoty. Guess what? Problem sorted.
So i would say put original one back in if you have it still.
Cheers Jamie

I have been told those original primers were prone to fail sometimes, so I changed the lot out for a full cav with primer. Could it be your primer is letting air in?

*JUST LUV IT* 96 GQ LWB TD4.2, Cav, Kings, Dobinsons, Motorguard, Enginesaver, 400 pro, Cooper ST's (rolls eyes), fleetguard oil filters, Delo 400 engine oil, Delo ESI gearbox oil and an RTC.
Whats involved with changing over for the full cav version? When pumping the primer it sounds like it is pushing air out when one of the bleed points is open but no fuel is coming through to the glass bowl under the filter. I'll try reseating everything again but I'm almost positive it is seated properly. Its starting to really piss me off!! Looks like I'll be driving the missus car again for work tomorrow.fnqcairns wrote:I have been told those original primers were prone to fail sometimes, so I changed the lot out for a full cav with primer. It does sometimes take a while to prime the fuel through. As far as changing them all it is is the two bolts that hold it all in place and the 2 hoses Inlet and outlet. But you wont be able to run the water sensor thing but yourshouldnt have it connected anyway/
